Nintendo has so far demonstrated accepting ambivalence towards alternate uses of the Wii Remote, but tactful dissent towards modding and homebrew on the Wii.  In the last few days, the modding/homebrew scene has been getting a lot of attention due to the successful booting of homebrew via the twilight hack.  A softmod is the next logical step, resulting in increased attention and Nintendo's tactful dissent turning into C&Ds and/or DMCA takedowns.

This is a concern for us because one of the main modding/homebrew sites, Wiibrew, is also the best site for Wii Remote information.  Wiili is in a similar situation.  In the interest of distancing ourselves from the modding/homebrew scene, and providing a more stable home for Wii Remote information, I feel it would be advantageous to start a Wiki focused on the Wii Remote and fork the information from Wiibrew and Wiili onto it.

What do people think?

I like that - as well as users using the Ning network set up to collaborate - http://wiimoteproject.ning.com

I can buy another domain and host a wiki if you would all like.

Hmm domains for this would be something like... wiimotewiki.com?  or something like that

Is there something wrong with adding it to this one?  New domains are fun and all, but there's value in building a single identity.

So you want wiki.wiimoteproject.com or wiimoteproject.com/wiki

Its cool with me either way.  I was just suggesting a different domain to make it more universal.

Yeah, either of those.  Though the site description isn't that universal, the name itself is quite good IMHO.

Yeah, either of those.

I have setup wiki.wiimoteproject.com

which site are you talking about? wiimoteproject.com, wiimotewiki.com or wiki.wiimoteproject.com?

I am confused.

with wiimotewiki.com I wanted to use this because it would not have to be affiliated with us, it would just be any site could use it.  Really does not matter to me what ever everyone else wants is why I made this site in the first place. Smiley

What I meant was:

"Wiimote Project" is a universal name.

"The official site of Johnny Lee's Wiimote Projects." isn't that universal, but the site seems to have grown beyond that anyway.

Looks great Smiley

Thanks for your hard work.  Also I do agree this site has been expanded past Johnny Lee.  I might change the description later a bit.

Thanks again

Inio
Insightful!
I think Wiili.org has collapsed. The server has been unavailable for nearly a week. If they haven't collapsed just insert your opensource OS joke here, because its just too easy.

Have we done a recent capture?

Biggest loss is their compatable BT device list, does anyone have a copy???

I don't think Wiibrew will go under anytime soon (more likely the big N will step in) but they have do a lot in reverse engineering the Wii & Wiimote over the past months. Maybe worth updating our mirrors.
