Hi everyone,  I recently built an IWB using the wiimote - all is working well in wiiboard using a single wiimote.  I bought a second wiimote and am now trying to get whiteboard and presenter going and I know that I am doing something wrong and I'm sure that it's something simple.  I don't have a clue about calibrating the second wiimote because it is something I'm holding in my hand.  I also have a stationary IR.  What I think I need looking through the smoothboard manual is the order in which to activate everything and which boxes I need to check/uncheck.  As step by step process would be really appreciated.  I am using Blue Soliell as the bluetooth stack.

Hi,

It is indeed simple.

You just need to select the Whiteboard and Presenter Mode. Smoothboard will confirm with you that you will need two Wiimotes for this mode and restart (if only one Wiimote was connected).

Then, the whiteboard functionality is the same for the first Wiimote. For the Presenter Wiimote, you do not need to calibrate. With the stationary IR, you can directly use it. This works something similar to the Wiimote is used on the actual Wii Console, where the center position of the detected stationary IR source will be transformed to the cursor position at the center of your screen (if there is no offsets).

However, you can directly use the Whiteboard and Presenter mode without any other changes to the settings.

Ok, I'm not understanding one thing. If the stationary IR source is there and on, and one of the wiimotes is it Whiteboard mode then wouldn't the whiteboard wiimote think of the IR source as the light coming from an IR light pen, and thus keep the mouse pointer fixed in one position? Is it programmed to just ignore the first blob? And only track a second blob it detects?

If the IR source is placed in the view of the whiteboard wiimote, then certainly there will be issues with it.  Earlier versions of Smoothboard has a Ignore IR point feature but this is too troublesome for most users. Thus, I have implemented several processing algorithms to determine the correct IR blob.

It would be best to place the stationary IR source away from your projected screen area. Below the projected screen area is fine.

If you don't want to use the exclude IR-Source in Smoothboard then I suggest the the best place is to the same side of teh White board of which you hold the Wiimote (otherwise your arm crosses in from of board and is less accurate) place in the mid height of the whiteboard. I find this gives you the most natural guesture control.

Alrighty then!  I got it going.  I think it was just the stationary ir placement.  In class, I have the projector and wiimote behind my IWB, and without taking that into serious consideration, things got wonky.  I brought my laptop home and placed the wiimote in front of the screen and the IR off to the side and all is good, so I just have to experiment in class as to placement of things.  Thanks for the re-assurances folks.
