I don't think it connects to your computer though...

If pc video card has TV output it connects. Moreover, I've seen the sell some very cheap "conversion" cables like this one, but they say that "video card must have TV OUT, but all new cards have it".
Maybe some cards have tv out but they don't include the connector?

My search continues.

Look at this project: it magnifies a 4.5" PSone lcd, and the results are good enough. The total cost is under $100.

PSOne was bought at $30 on ebay. But it has low resolution: 320x240.

I think that a similar setup, but even better (because the smaller the lcd is, the simpler is the project) could be done with a 2.5" lcd like this one.

Maybe a little led matrix could also be used for illumination, rather than lamps/bulbs, but probably some fresnel or whatever should be used for a uniform lighting.
