I can't seem to power these IR i got. It says it needs 5v to power but i tried 6v and 4.5v but it doesn't seem to work?

the stats for the IR are
reverse votage 5v
continuous forward current 150mA
forward voltage 1.3v typ, 1.7v max
radiant power output 13-15mW
wavelength at peak emission 950nm.

Or do you need night vision to see them?

you cant see IR! get a digital camera and you should be able to see it, but if you put 6v on that IR LED its probably fried! did it make a funny smell?

Look at the forward voltage not reverse

1 aaa will work, but you might need a new LED.

Also: Take a look at this

prolonged 5V on your IR LED probably killed it.

An AA battery will probably do since the forward voltage is only 1.3.
And yes, the most important thing is that you can't see IR. If you have a mobile phone with camera, use it to view the IR LED when connected to the battery. you will see a bright white light emitting from the LED. :-)
