Hi, I've tried looking all around the forum and the internet but can't seem to find the answer.

I made my IR led pen, and the led is working fine. However when I go to calibrate the pen using the four touch points, the wiimote won't pick it up. The wiimote picks it up fine when I point the pen directly at it, but won't pick up the led when I point it towards my tv screen.

Am I placing the wiimote wrong?

I even scuffed up the led to improve the tracking a bit, but it still doesn't pick it up.

Yeah, you should follow ben's advice as he have spent a great deal of time testing all kinds of IRs. Just use the Vishay TSAL 6400 IR LEDs.
