Ben,
Couldn't agree more, Boonjin is doing amazing things and need a decent pen, i'll be testing out the new release in the classroom tomorrow, the school i'm at has just currently ordered 100 Vishay TSAL6400 LEDs and plan on putting together a heap of pens with the gifted and talented students.
I have one question, you use a rechargeable AAA, and as far as i'm aware, you were using the above diode which has a forward voltage of 2.6 and a AAA only has 1.5V. how much does it affect pen performance or have you changed diodes?
Hi,
Have you downloaded the updated version, 3.5.1. There was a bug concerning with the key presses in the presenter mode. In the updated version I have ironed out this problem.
Can't wait to get your feedback from the field test in the classroom.

Boonjin,
Yes, I have downloaded the version with the bug fix, I'll be sure to give it a rigorous test tomorrow, however I still need to purchase a 2nd Wiimote for simultaneous use of smoothboard and presenter.
I'll let you know tomorrow afternoon.
Cheers

Given Boonjin has added so many additions this version, I'm sure their are more minor bugs to be found (he already fixed the one you mentioned). I have posted a few on the Wiimote Smoothboard Post. Once we get all additions finished then when can make the Graphical User Interface more user friendly and write a detailed user manual, completing this program.
Vishay TSAL6400 have a Max 1.6v and Average 1.35v, (theoretically requires 1.6v+ source voltage and appropraite resistor) but I find 1.2v works absolutely awesome. Plus you do not need a resistor, so one less solder and part to fit in the small case. It may have a slightly shorter life as voltage drop will be quicker with drain thus becoming under charged. However, the ease of charging with my setup makes this irrelevant.

Ha may bad on the TSAL6400, I just realised I ordered 100 of the semiconductors
sorry bout the mix up, thee are rated at 2.6V max and only have a 25 degree viewing angle...lucky I checked and farnell accept returns, another 100 of the correct ones are in place.
I have a few ideas similar for pens with the recharge option and will post pics when I get time

Wiimote Friends
Following Boonjin's awesome work integrating Smoothboard with the Presenter, I built an IR-Source that can be easily used in the classroom and can be easily moved.
Parts:
1x AAA Battery holder with switch
1x Vishay TSAL 6400
1x 8ohm Resistor
2x AAA 1.2v Rechargeable batteries
1x Battery
Pictures:
Simply soldered the IR-Led direct to switch circuit, use some araldite to hold IR-Led in place. Araldite the magnets on the base and cover it in black electrical tape to make it look professional and prevent scratches on your whiteboard.
I can know walk in the classroom, switch it on place it anywhere on the whiteboard and my presenter works a treat!

Just wanted to show a pen I made. I don't especially know what type of ir led is inside but works well. It was taken out from an old tv remote.

check out the attatchment for an incredibly well thought out IR pen. In fact, I had a mold created so that we can have our own caps (plastic injected) The clip doubles as the switch, just press it to the pen body to activate! see more at
