been lookin around for supplies to build my own wii white board light pen, and i happened across this

thinking i might snatch a couple up, and switch out the led with an IR led.

looking closely at the picture of the pen it looks like the led is sticking right out of the end just like most of the home made ones ive seen

also the switch on the top can be twisted on for continued use

i figure its worth a try for only $11

any thoughts?

a hardware in my area has these with white led's. i had the same idea but couldnt get the main part out to change the led.

they are assembled well but it seems a little too well for my comfort of ripping it apart. the top of mine does not unscrew and pressure would need to be applied directly to the led which could damage its inner workings.

also mine said to be waterproof so that lead me to believe a sealant or adhesive was used upon initial assembly.

you can try it but i had no luck. that company does actually make an IR version if you can find them.

plus AAAA batteries are harder to find and more expensive.

plus the on switch is on the very back which makes it harder if you are trying to do mouse clicks with it.

well i got the LED pen lights i ordered, today



was pretty easy to take apart without breaking anything, i unscrewed the battery cap, took out the batteries, used a flat surface (kitchen counter) to start to push the bulb out, then used an alan wrench to get it the rest of the way out.





the component that holds the led bulb in place is a little piece of plastic with the leads wrapped into it, a little bit of a pain to dismantle with big fingers, but i found a paper clip to get it started, and it wasn't to hard to take apart after that.

the pens i ordered had red LEDs in them, still waiting on my IR LEDs that i ordered, so i'll post again once i have it assembled.

also, the button on the top if you hold it down and twist the battery cap tighter will keep the light on with out having to hold down the switch manually.



should work fine as a pen, i myself am left handed so using my mouse while writing and such isn't a problem for me.

i had to put quite a bit for force to push it out, as i said before, if it breaks it breaks, if not, score.

main thing is i wasn't afraid to break it, it wouldn't be glued in though, by looking at the component if it was glued in, you wouldn't be able to turn it it on because the batteries wouldn't make contact with the LED.

I purchased this pen from Amazon also which already has an IR LED in it. The pen is VERY uncomfortable to use because the button is on the back. I think I feel Carpal Tunnel coming on!

So how does that work if you have to "click" in order to "mouse click"?
