I started this project a year or two ago, but have been really working on it for the past 8 months or so - it's a device that you install into a real guitar, and it lets you play Guitar Hero or Rock Band using the strings and frets, playing real notes and chords to play the colors in the game.

It's based on the ATmega88/168/328 microcontroller series.  It's also got a USB-out for PS3 and PC compatibility, via the firmware V-USB library.

I've also gone totally open source with it, so hopefully it can help someone else building their own extension controllers.  If anyone needs help figuring out the code, send me a message on the site and I'll see what I can do to help!

You can check out the project at www.OpenChord.org, or the code's on Google Code here:http://code.google.com/p/openchord-guitar/
