Hyper Island project

Hi all!

We're a group of students from HyperIsland in Sweden, who're going to create something funny/exciting/creative/whatever out of two wiimotes. Right now we're just brainstorming and scanning the web for facts and ideas.

In October 24th we're going to an exhibition in Stockholm to present our product, constellation or whatever we decide on creating. It's gonna be three funny but intense weeks.

We sure have lots and lots of questions for you, but we hope to present some kickass thingy in three weeks for you all to see! We'll also try to update this thread with all our problems and progresses. We've already received a few tips and have aldo been reading most of your threads, but if you have some more tips, ideas or questions, just hit us! Smiley

Our brainstorming session are soon ending. Alot of crazy ideas have been popping up, but only three of them are really interesting.

1. Reversed duckhunt. With IR-leds on a cap, a projector and a wiimote pointing to the floor this is thought to be a game where the player is the "duck" dodging from bullets.

2. Guestboard. This is mainly like a Whiteboard where "party guests" can draw or write greetings, but also get access to party related things like music control.

3. Dance tracking. With IR-leds connected to your feet and hands you'll draw your dance moves onto a screen.

@ Guiguito: I actually downloaded wiiusej to my mac, but we're trying it out on a PC soon. We'll happily accept all the tech-help we can get since all we really got is a day-long lecture of javascripting.

Wich languages do you know ? only javascript ? because java and javascript are completely different ...

Well, actually it was mobile processing, it would be an aggravation to say that we KNOW it though.... I'm more of a flash guy, so if the game is the thing we choose to do it will be in flash.

Yeah, I know we're a bit over our heads, but hey, that's how you learn right? Smiley

Ok, so at the end of the day we chose to go for the game. We have a concept idea, the technique and hopefully the knowledge to get this baby running. The game will be made in flash and is going to be very simple technically, which will give us more time to design the thing!

More details about the gameplay will follow.


My question now is where to purchase the best IR-leds? Kjell & Co will provide us with all the necessities, but I'm guessing the light itself is rather important. What should I look for when buying?

Oh yeah, these are the Ir lights Kjell can offer:



IF:   100 mA
Capsule:   Clear 5 mm
Beem angle?:   ±25°

Wave lenght:   940 nm

Those IR-Leds may be trial and error. We know the Vishal TSAL6400 & TSAL5300 (if you may be detecting from more oblique angles TSAL6400) are the bomb and will work everytime.

Now we made an order on IR-LEDs from Kjell, but also a few TSAL6400 from UndCon (thank you!).

Now that you are doing this project in acrionscript its not that far from papervision and when you look at papervision you can include real 3d objects.

I will be honest, I'm not a gamer in any way.

I tried your game yesterday, without reading any instructions. The obvious thing to me was to 'collect' as many ducks as possible. I quickly worked out I can only collect three ducks and the game ends! My conclusion, "what a crap game".

Today, I read the instructions then realised I'm supposed to dodge the ducks. My conclusion "great game"!

I'm a PE & Health teacher in Australia, only a few weeks ago one of my collegues modified a java game very similar to your demo. He just replaced the source graphic files (no programming was required). Instead of a dog he had a condom and instead of ducks he had pictures of HIV/Aids cells. The aim was to shot the cells arcade game style. The kids loved it!

What would be cool is if it could become physical using your concept. Is it possible for you make the program so the background, falling objects & dodge character are *.jpg files so users can customise?

I have this fantastic image in my head of students running arround trying to avoid the HIV/Aids virus using your program.
