HI all!

I create tech stuff for severely disabled people.  I've got some that want to Wii but can only move their heads.  Seeing the article about placing a small refelective dot on someone's forehead (we do this for PC with our SmartNav head tracker) and the Wii's built-in camera?

Would someone be available, even for a fee (since we will eventually want this as a product for our small company that helps people), to help in this endeavor?

maybe have somthing that you can stick in there mouth, like if they bite down then they it'll be the a button. i'm not too sure tho, because the wii was origionally made with interactivity in mind... but it is possible. I think its great that you helping people that are less fortunate then you. Also, you might be able too have a thing that goes in there mouth, a button on the right side, and b button on the left.

First of all: it's great that you put effort in making the lives of disabled people better Grin awesome.
I dont think it'll quite work if you place a dot on a persons forehead, since the movement wont be that big. I'd go for placing the wiimote on a helmet, or something, and then have a sensor bar on top of a screen. For making clicks work i saw a pretty cool approach on television some time ago. They did it with eye-tracking, which is completely different, but what they did was something like this: If the cursor was at 1 spot for more than 2 seconds, there would be a mouseclick. I dont know what they did with the right clicks though.

lol 2 secs on 1 spot for click->no hold on spot when not wanting to click, we don't wan't them to get RSI in their neck ontop of being disabled Tongue. I would go for a mouth tool. Remod a mouse into a nice mouth piece (only left and right mouse button ofcourse.)

you poked me in the right direction, I worked it out.
another fact: don't measure a mouse while its connected to a computer, it made my computer hard reset lol.

For the mouse click problem, you can put some reflective material on one (or two) eyelids.  This way, when the eyes are quickly close, you can detect one (or two) new tracked points and simulate clicks this way.
Just an idea...

that wouldn't work that well. It would be hard to open and close your eyelids. Unless you got some type o reflective cloth or something but that would still feel funky. Maybee even have a hat with two leds a a couple of inches out of the side. Then it would solve the limited range of movement. Also, it would probably be best if you had a mouth button

I'm just embarking on such a project. My sister is a recent quadriplegic (car accident) and being the computer geek in the family everyone looked to me to find a solution for her computer use. Toward that end I've ordered all the parts for a head tracking system that hopefully will allow her to move a mouse pointer on the screen. I'm going to dig into the software while I wait for parts. If I come up with anything I'd be happy to post it here....
