Hi from Brisbane Australia!

I am a teacher of Chinese, teaching Chinese to Prep to Year 8s. I move from classroom to classroom. I love interactive whiteboard.  I got use Premetheam IWB a year ago. I also bought a Smartboard Notebook software. So I can use Smartboard software to plan my lesson.

I need create an IWB to take with me into different classrooms. The IT guys in our school do not like tablets. I love tablets. Anyway, I can not get a tablet because they don't want one.

My laptop has bluetooth function, it is Dell Latitude E6500. I also have a data projector in my year 8 classroom, hanging on the ceiling. 

I read your WiimoteProject in 2008. Has the software been developed for the public to use? not just for the software developer?
 
I am new to this. But I am intereted in this. I wonder if you can help me to create an IWB in any classroom I walk in.  What things I need to purchase to make it happen? How much I need to pay?  THANK YOU!

Hi,

Great to hear of your interest.

To get started, all you need is a Wiimote, IR pen and the software such as Smoothboard.

The Smoothboard software is made for the end-user. For example, you can automatically connect your Wiimotes and annotate directly with the software.

For the hardware, you can purchase from the sellers in the forum. If you are looking for a complete and robust setup, you can get a Wiimote power supply, remote sync device, mounts in addition to the IR pen.

Hi,

Yeah, Smoothboard allows you to turns your screen into an interactive whiteboard. Any application that uses the mouse and keyboard should work with Smoothboard including the Promethean software. If you are licensed to use the software, there should be no conflicts.

Smoothboard by itself has built-in annotation tools for you to draw and write on the screen. If you would like to type Chinese words, you may need an additional third-party software. Like I have mentioned, any software that uses the mouse and keyboard will work with Smoothboard.

I am interested in giving it a go. I don't have a wiimote, I am bit old fashion, have never got into playing computer games. I am not a game person. I visited IRPenOline, I did not see a wiimote in your product list.

I guess I need to purchase the whole package, including a Wiimote and its charger, a tri-pod, a spot, a IR Pen, a Smoothboard software... . Do I need a Bluetooth Dongle if my laptop has bluetooth setup?

What does your complete and robust setup include? How much is that? Where can I buy them?

Hi Dlin,

If your computer has built-in Bluetooth, you may not need an additional Bluetooth dongle. If you are not using the Microsoft Bluetooth stack, you may need to manually connect the Wiimote instead of using Smoothboard to automatically connect your Wiimote. For convenience, usually we do recommend the use of a Bluetooth adaptor that uses the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack.

You can try launching Smoothboard on your computer to see whether SmoothConnect appears. If yes, you already have the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack present and should be able to directly connect the Wiimote by just pressing the 1+2 buttons simultaneously. Otherwise, you may want to try to manually install the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack, or use a Bluetooth adaptor that uses the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack while disabling your built-in Bluetooth.

For the Wiimote, you can purchase it from your local game store.
