Title: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: dice on January 07, 2008, 05:43:14 PM "Unable to launch the DesktopVR program"
blarg.... a number of people have been reporting a "Wiimote FishtankVR has encountered a problem" error. but whom are able to run my other programs. Unfortunately, I can't replicate the error on any of my computers and I'm leaving for the holidays. So, fixes may be slow for the next 2 weeks. If you can shed some light on this, please add a comment to this post and I'll upload a fixed version once this problem is hashed out. Deleting the "config.dat" file and re-running the program may help. Installing the most recent version of DirectX may help. (update 12/30/07) I also got some suggestions that this might be due to a "x86/x64 linkage problem" related to 64-bit version of Windows. The program needs to be recompiled for this. I'll try to post a new version sometime in the next few weeks. Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: yomer on January 09, 2008, 01:22:46 PM I have a Lenovo t60p with Windows Vista Business and DirectX10. I get the error upon starting the program. Even deleting the .dat file makes no difference.
Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: airchie on January 09, 2008, 01:56:58 PM I had the same issue.
Downloading and installing the suggested DX SDK got it working on XP SP2. Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: JoeKuboj on January 09, 2008, 05:35:11 PM Can't detect Direct3D or something like that... :-\

Sounds like you GFX card or driver. Try updatinf it, if not it might not support D3D Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: Twister on January 11, 2008, 02:33:25 PM I had some direct3d problems too, but then I activated my second display and the program started.
Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: tmizas on January 12, 2008, 08:21:17 PM I was getting crashes. I downloaded the newest .NET framework (3.5) and directx 9c and it worked no problem.
Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: benfunk on January 14, 2008, 06:41:55 PM I had my monitor rotated 90 degrees and the program wouldn't run. I set the rotation to zero and it worked.
Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: zero298 on January 16, 2008, 10:57:07 PM A friend and I were trying to get it to work on my Toshiba Vista Business Laptop. I tried reinstalling DirectX .Net framework and everything else I could think of.
After all that failed, I tinkered with the compatibility mode and figured out that you have to disable desktop composition for it to run. Hope this is helpful. Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: ZaPPZion on January 17, 2008, 02:23:14 AM Yup, that definately is usefull, I saw it before on the boards, but it's always good to make it easier to find. I'll make a post about it i guess, so people can find it really easily ;D
Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: troy59 on January 18, 2008, 03:34:15 PM it still won't work on mine. darn. even when i download v 3.0 it has an error. So i'm kinda screwed. darn
Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: benneh on January 19, 2008, 04:18:35 AM To be a little more specific than it doesn't work..., the error I am getting is:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException was unhandled Message: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.DirectX, Version=1.0.2902.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Running on Vista Ultimate, fully updated including SP1(RC), x86. I'll give installing the DX SDK a go and see if I get some joy. Hopefully I can get it working, this project is very cool. Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: benneh on January 19, 2008, 08:18:32 AM Ok, got it working by a combination of installing the Nov 2007 DirectX Runtimes from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1A2393C0-1B2F-428E-BD79-02DF977D17B8&displaylang=en and also had to check the "disable visual styles" checkbox in the properties for the executable.
To connect my wiimote, I had to slightly modify the source code with the try/catch around the calibration step documented elsewhere on these forums. And finally, here's a little video of it all up and running ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIDmpU6eO2M Thanks for making this fun bit of software. Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: stevenpph on January 27, 2008, 02:21:50 AM A Solution!!!!
I have also had that error "Can't detect direct3D". After a day of debugging I found my error. Don't unzip just the .exe file - you also need the two .png files unzipped to the same directory! That error message is just a little misleading! Once you get past that message, you may see the message "cannot find a connected Wiimote". You might want to search for and download the program: WiinRemote_v2007.1.13.zip If it's able to connect to your bluetoothed Wiimote, then DesktopVR should be able to as well (only connect one at a time). Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: jon on February 23, 2008, 04:31:24 AM I had this error when I first tried. The exception shown says that it can't find directx runtime, which is because DirectX was not installed- I installed directx 9 runtime and all was fine.
Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: yang on May 04, 2008, 12:49:05 AM had this problem too initally, running on a MX 4400 card.
later on (just for this project), i got a 8400 GS card and it worked fine. just a lead for those who are troubleshooting, that: it might be the graphics card not having support for DirectX 9 Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: Bumgloves on June 05, 2008, 08:51:31 PM I get a long huge error that says something at the end about "JIT debugging" and turning it on, but can't figure out how. Anyone else get this? Any help?
Title: Badly trying to get DesktopVR program to run Post by: brian76 on June 25, 2008, 12:08:21 PM Hi All,
I've been trying for 2 days to get Desktop VR programme to run but I've had no luck. I'm running a Winxp Professional x64 edition sp 2 with the latest versions of direct x. I have bluetooth connecting with the wiiremote and have configured the config.dat file to my monitors height. I noticed on Leganza site http://www.leganza.it/dblog/articolo.asp?articolo=47 - that he had made an emendment for x86 versions by deleting the code partaining to the system spec. When i deleted it, It gave me an error saying the programme was designed for another system type. I'm not a programmer in any way and am very lost with this. Can anyone with a similar spec machine help, Please??? Maybe this will help somebody: I've managed to resolve problem with launching DesktopVR program yesterday, after all day long fight. I'm using Windows Vista Business on Macbook + USB Bluetooth Dongle (because built-in Bluetooth did't work). When I connected MacBook to TV, and right click file wiidesktopvr.exe and changed in properties of file "disable visual themes" everything started to work fine. Regards MW Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: rafffel on January 06, 2009, 06:12:49 PM Thanks it help me i am on vista and i right click on application and check "disable visual themes" and after it's working great thanks ^^
Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: wiibrown on February 13, 2009, 04:19:56 PM If you're interested, I recompiled DesktopVR for Windows XP (32-bit). You can find the post at http://www.wiimoteproject.com/wiimote-desktopvr/several-fixes-combined-into-one/ (http://www.wiimoteproject.com/wiimote-desktopvr/several-fixes-combined-into-one/).
Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: Karma on February 17, 2009, 04:21:42 AM I've registered to share my solution.
I have two computers, and have tried ALL of the following in both, with SAME experience. Running Windows XP SP2, .NET 2.0 already installed, I tryed with no success: - installing DirectX Nov 2007 (it helped but not resolved) - deleting config.dat - activating second display - resizing 800x600 I could finally run it, simply... not running it! I mean, instead of the file WiiDesktopVR.exe (208KB) placed in the main folder, I ran bin\Release\WiiDesktopVR.exe (184KB), and it worked fine (in both different computers)!! Title: Re: Unable to launch the DesktopVR program Post by: amelsfort on August 06, 2009, 06:15:16 PM I've tried some different versions, installed the latest version of DirectX, but the program still crashes.
I'm running Windows 7 x64. Could that be the problem? Anyone else running Windows 7? |
