My problem with the wiimote whiteboard has always been that students do not understand that the IR camera needs to see the dot and they can't stand in front of it or block it with their hands.

To combat this, I'd like to mount the wiimotes at a more extreme angle on either side of the board looking down.  The obvious problem with this is that they will never be able to see the lower corner of the side they are mounted on, and as such I will never be able to calibrate them using the current method (calibrating each wiimote separately).

My question is if it would be possible to skip points that were not visible to the wiimote during calibration, so instead of clicking an X in each corner it would have an X in 3 corners and one in the center, or something like that.

Here's a picture of how I'd like multiple wiimotes to function, perhaps it's already possible and I'm just doing something wrong.

Hi,

You should be able to use Smoothboard to set up your suggestions as it works with two Wiimotes and also a customizable calibration area. However, the Wiimotes will need to be placed slightly outwards of the screen (facing the screen area) as it does not have depth perception with just a single IR point especially where only one Wiimote is able to capture the IR point.

The Select Screen Area option (under Settings->Whiteboard->Screen) allows you to select a specific part of the screen to conduct the calibration. This area can be the area that can be seen between the two Wiimotes.

The size of the calibration area may impact the tracking accuracy as a slight inaccuracy of the calibration might cause an amplified displacement of the cursor. Therefore, do try to get the largest possible calibration area and calibrate carefully.
