I was just thinking, "Surface" is a big multi-touch coffee table. I'm sure most, if not all of you have heard about it.

Anyways, what if we took an LCD projector (wish I had one) placed it under a glass table so it was projecting up onto the surface with a translucent projector screen. Do you think if the Wiimote was under the surface looking  up at the table top, could the wiimote see the irLED Light pen through the surface?\

If possible, That would be a really cheap "Surface"

Although surface can see objects placed on it, like cups, phones, anything... this would be a cool start to something like that.

LoL if I had an LCD projector, I'd try this right now.

Take a look at NuiGroup and naturalui

they use the "rear-projection table" idea and they have extended it a bit to include FTIR.
This way you dont need the IR-pen at all (wich in my opinion is better)

But i can agree that it is a cheap setup to use the IRpens on a coffetable
