ZoomIt is indeed a great application, as a screen zoom application, countdown timer and screen overlay program. If it's screen overlay you want with a little more options, try Linktivity presenterit's a freeware application.

This one has some cool features. The words are in German, though. The only thing I don't like is there is no cursor button so you can then work on the web page agian. It has highlighter functions! http://www.pointofix.de/download.php

It's very simple to change from german to any language eg. english. Download the translation file and copy the instructions. To regain your cursor simply click, Done or the top button. It is an easy to use annotation tool. Thanks. Joe.

You seem to be having fun with this. Nice find BTW Agree, the ScreenMarker looks a bit better. PointToFix: it's easy to load an English language pack but the lack of cursor button makes it less useful IMHO. @jdkestewart: yes you can get your cursor back but all the screen anotations are cleared. The two programs mentioned before don't do that. Or am i missing something?

I am look for a handwriting recognition that works with the powerpoint pen feature. What I envision doing is putting a PDF of a class worksheet on the slideshow and then have the kids come up to fill in the answer. Then with the HR part I want it to change the handwriting into text A simple screen overlay is not good enough because afterwards I want to be able to go home and animate the answer using powerpoint, so that I have the answer already filled in for next year and I would be able to reveal it whereever I want in the slideshow.

I don't think you can have an active object like that in powerpoints presentation mode. You may have better luck doing something like that in ClassroomPresenter or Promethian's free personal edition of activInspire. Both softwares allow you import .ppt files btw. Another thing you could do in power point is put a shape over the answer that dissolves when you click on it.
So, the student would go up to the board and write the answer, and then click on the shape to see if they have it right.
