Has anyone tried whiteboard with a rear projection screen?

I think the answer is yes! Smiley
I thought I'd ask anyway!

I've seen one or 2 videos where someone has projected from below and is using the whiteboard
So I assume this is being done as I'm suggesting, i.e. with a rear projection

But, I haven't seen this done well anywhere

What would be great: projecting onto a transparent projection screen and using the touch screen in front of the screen

You could have the wiimote behind the screen - which would be brilliant as it wouldn't get in the way of anything and you could have it positioned so that it's in the best most optimal position

I'm not sure if there would be any problems if the wiimote is placed behind?

I'll be doing EXACTLY the above very soon - just waiting to get a few parts together
It will be another week or 2 before I have everything ready

Would be great to know if someone has done it already?
I'd like to see a video or 2

I haven't tried it but I think I can set up a demonstration on a ~6meter wide rear projection screen

If I schedule such a demonstration I need a few really good and useful applications such as headtracking games, Boonjin's lovely application and a nice and easy to use paint application.

Not to mention a good Powerpoint to show the technique and explaining how things works.

Hmm - I'll try to set up things for a demonstration in my office first where I can test on Projectors any day...

I'll ask a friend about the schedule on the reardisplay (located in a VR demonstration facility)

I'm working full time as a DOT.NET programmer/ web developer at TietoEnator.

Being the father of 2 kids I wish I had more time for fun stuff like playing with the Wiimote and such...but there are times at work when I can play with this project...as part of education or to raise my own competence Smiley

i tried, well not using the projector screen by a few piece of paper and the projector and the wiimote is behind the paper. Well u can use plastic, but for me is just a prototype so using a few piece of paper is fine. and it can WORK!

as for projector screen, u nid to make sure that IR can pass through the projector screen, if not then it wont work.

If u put at the back of the projector screen, the movement of the cursor, y-axis will go in opposite direction. This will be the problem u will be facing. But if u know how to edit the code, it will be easy!

aaaah... see this is what i was wondering about! i wasn't sure, but i blindly assumed all would be ok!

for this part, i need help!

i can edit the code... but what do i need to edit?
can u let me know?  else, i'll have to go through all of the code and decipher everything!

well u need to recalculate the y-axis, by subtracting it with the screen width then *-1.

I have tried and it works. But when my friend did this, he doesnt need to change anything and everything works fine, so i find it very weird. Anyone got any explaination on this?

your friend didn't have the same problem?
well... i couldn't make my mind up whether it would be a problem or not
one way, i was thinking: it doesn't matter where the wiimote is placed - because it's tracking the infrared

well u can try it first, if no problem then its good, but if got problem which is the same as mine, then u need to edit the source code a little. If you are using boonjin application, you can ask him to help you edit the axis coordination movement. If he have no time for that, then i will use johnny chung lee source code to help you edit it

Update!

I got a reply from my friend and I just have to give him a call and we go check it out...

I can try to mount the wiimote in both sides and simply test if the ir-blob from my Vishay's can shine through the material the display is made of or if you hvae to set up the wiimote as per normal whiteboard-setup...

look forward to seeing the video

i've got some samples of rear projection sheets
so will also be trying out monday

would be good to have a few videos if it does work

the only thing though is that: not all of the rear projection material is transparent
i've got 4 samples: 2 are see through and the others aren't
BUT: when i say transparent, i mean to the naked eye
so... i'm assuming all will be ok when you try the infrared pens with the wiimotes

just thought i'd let you know: i've finnaly got round to trying it myself
it works beautifully!

i've tried it with 4 different types of rear projection screens and it all works fine!!

i can think of a million and one different applications and uses

and no need for any alterations to the software: it seems to work fine!

i'll post a video when i get a chance
