Have a look at http://www.onfinity.com/products.asp

This is being offered for $800AUS

It looks like a IR camera, pen and wand kit.

They only need to drop the price by $700... Grin

Hi,

Actually these optical capture device to turn a screen into the interactive whiteboard has been in the market for quite a while. However, it did not take off very well maybe due to the issue of blocking and also the lack of commercial push for these.

I have seen another one from a Japanese brand selling for about SGD 1000, where they claim to be using high resolution optical cameras and connects via USB. Therefore, the advantage of these devices compared to using the Wii Remote may be high tracking resolution, wide viewing angle and potentially plug-n-play.

Unless they manage to scale the manufacturing and sell plenty of units, it is quite possible that it is quite costly like you have seen.

I just got and email from them on my admin [at] wiimoteproject.com account.  Never heard of them before but they are very much overpriced though in a professional environment it would look better I guess.

Hi all,
I have used one in August at the 6th National IWB conference in Sydney. The company had a display set up. I had all my wiimote gear including my extension wand pens (which by the way are essential to any teacher). My pens worked on his system exactly the same as his pens did so the concept is identical to the wiimote. It is plug and play - but it has to positioned in front of the board plugged in to your lap top whereas the wiimote can be positioned up high out of the way so as to reduce block-out. I believe that the wiimote is better as it is wireless! We have also solved all the connection issues and accessibility issues too, so the wiimote is very quick to get up and running - less than 1 minute.
Cheers,
Joe.
