Wiimote Friends

There are 4 core Wiimote IWB applications:
- Wiimote Smoothboard: http://www.boonjin.com/wp
- Java Wiimote IWB: http://www.uweschmidt.org/wiimote-whiteboard
- GTK Python Wiimote IWB: http://www.stepd.ca/gtkwhiteboard/
- Johnny Chung Lee's original Wiimote IWB v2: http://www.wiimoteproject.com

This topic is to present the options and a summary of each application, specifically looking at which application is best for which operatings system.

Wiimote Smoothboard
Discussion thread: http://www.wiimoteproject.com/wiimote-smoothboard/
Operating Systems:
Vista & XP: Awesome
Mac Bootcamp: Awesome
Mac OSX: Not compatible
Linux: Unknown (please tell me)

Additional software:
Microsoft .net Framework 3.5 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en

Notes:
Best application for windows environment. Lots of functionality and relatively stable. Most issues relate to multiple screens, Boonjin the author is actively resolving issues and bugs. The integrated Presenter function and visual calibration assistant and the best features of this application.

Main Feature:
- Smoothing (Better writing)
- Multiple Wiimotes (better tracking)
- Visual calibration assistant (easy calibration)
- Cursor control (Left, centre, right, double & Movement only options)
- Toggle zones (click an area to run application, change cursor control or key strokes)
- Integrated Presenter (Turns Wiimote to a handheld presenter with keyboard control)

Java Wiimote IWB
Discussion thread: http://www.wiimoteproject.com/wiimote-java-whiteboard/
Operating Systems:
Vista & XP: Great close range only
Mac Bootcamp: Unknown (please tell me)
Mac OSX: Awesome
Linux: Works, requires some extra work: http://www.uweschmidt.org/comment/303

Additional software:
Jave http://www.java.com

Notes:
Best application for Mac OS environment. Lots of functionality and relatively stable. Works well in Windows only at lower quality tracking. The integrated connection utility is a fantastic feature.

Main Feature:
- Smoothing (Better writing)
- Multiple Wiimotes (better tracking or Whiteboard & Presenter)
- Left Click & Double click
- Integrated connection utility (very easy Wiimote connection)

GTK Wiimote IWB
Operating Systems:
Vista & XP: Average
Mac Bootcamp: Unknown (please tell me)
Mac OSX: Unknown (please tell me)
Linux: Awesome

Additional software:
Windows only: Microsoft .net Framework 3.5 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en

Notes:
Best application for Linux OS environment. Some functionality and relatively stable. Although as far as I can tell is not supported as well as the above projects.

Main Feature:
- Cursor control (Left, right, double & Movement only options)
- Toggle zones (click an area to run application, change cursor control or key strokes)

Johnny Chung Lee's Original Wiimote IWB V2
Operating Systems:
Vista & XP: Average - lots of bugs
Mac Bootcamp: Average - lots of bugs
Mac OSX: Not compatible
Linux: Not compatible

Additional software:
Windows only: Microsoft .net Framework 3.5 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en

Notes:
This is the application that started it all (although there is some conjecture if JCL was the first). This is best for programmers that want to play with the concept or start their own project. This program is NOT for end users as it has many bugs and very low functionality compared to the above projects. Most importantly it is not supported please don't post asking for fixes or post bugs unless you are asking for assistance on how to change the code to fix the bug/issue.

Main Feature:
- Basic code structure for programmers to follow
- Open source code

If you would like to add any information to this knowledge base please PM me with details.
