Title: Wii whiteboard classroom needs more software!
Post by: jerminho on September 13, 2009, 10:47:19 PM
Hi there
I am a educator in a high school in singapore.

Right now we have converted a lab into a classroom geared towards group collaboration and discussion.
Presently we have found three apps which may be particularly useful.
These are .
dabbleboard.com, collaborative drawing  web app
Active inspire, a striped down promethean whiteboard app which is free to download
Highlight, which does markings on any screeen

We are now looking for a decent handwriting recognition application, which is either open source or freeware. Also We area group setting.

Below are some pictures to give you and idea on what the classrrom will be like
thank you
Jermyn

Which OS?

If MAC just use their OCR engine works a treat or MS Onenote is a PC/Bootcamp user?

Wiimote IWB software: http://www.boonjin.com/smoothboard/index.php?title=Interactive_software

Checkout MassiveBoard if it's simple whiteboard software you are after. Looking at the next bunch of more advanced features to compliment this software. Possibly, as a seperate application to keep MassiveBoard simple.

BTW it's free. So, will any other software that comes of this so give it a try and let me know what you think and where it falls short.

Sorry, I'm a solid PC user so very little MAC knowledge. I know the MAC OCR is excellent but I don't know how to use/access it.

The only thing that I have seen that will do gesture recognition is Ink.  Unfortunately ink only uses Graphic Tablets + Pens to do this.  You would need to find a way to trick ink into thinking the Wiimote is Graphic Tablet.  I don't know if that is possible or not.

Please let us know what you figure out
