Title: Error reading data from Wiimote...is it connected?
Post by: mammolastan on October 19, 2010, 10:20:22 AM
I have gone through many different steps, and followed the advice of many different threads. I have troubleshooted every step that I can think of, and I am still not able to get SmoothBoard to function with my WiiMote.

I am using Microsoft Bluetooth Stack.
My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
I have already followed the procedures in 7.4 and 7.6 of the SmoothBoard User Guide.

Upon opening SmoothBoard, SmoothConnect launches. I start hitting the 1&2 buttons simultaneously every second. My WiiMote's MAC address is listed and the program searches for my WiiMote. The MAC address get highlighted in green as the SmoothConnect blue status bar symbols stop flashing and the status message says "Installing".

SmoothBoard launches automatically after SmoothConnect is finished, and I always am receiving the error message "Error reading data from Wiimote...is it connected?"

It is my sincere hope that I can get this program working with my computer, and any help that could be provided would be most greatly appreciated. If I need to provide further info or screencaps I will do so.

Thanks!

Hi,

You may want to try to set Smoothboard to connect to multiple Wiimotes instead as there may be multiple entries of the HID devices for the Wiimote on your computer.

If it still fails, please do send us the screenshot of the Device Manager as described in the Smoothboard User Guide.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thank yo so much for your reply. I have done as you suggested and set SmoothBoard to connect 2 WiiMotes. When SmoothConnect runs, it seems to recognize the MAC address of my one WiiMote (that Mac address is highlighted green). When this happens, I launch SmoothBoard.

The error message that I am receiving now upon SmoothBoard launch is

"Error reading data from Wiimote...is it connected?
First Wiimote not found".

Here is screenshot of my device manager:

Thanks so much!

Hi,

Does the Battery Level show up in Smoothboard now? If yes, it would appear as the second Wiimote.

To set this as the Primary Wiimote, under Smoothboard Settings->General->Wiimote, click on Switch Wiimotes without Switching Calibration Data.

Alternatively, you may want to try to remove the 2 Bluetooth HID Devices listed in the Device Manager.

Right Click and click on Uninstall.

When the MAC address is highlighted, it does not mean that the wiimote is installed properly yet. You will need to wait until the device installing status say that it has successfully installed hardware(this will appear in the bottom left corner). In the meantime you will need to repetitively(on & off) press the 1 & 2 button until you launch Smoothboard.

Hope that helps

Thank you for the most recent advice. I have now uninstalled the HID Bluetooth devices then tried to connect my WiiMote with SmoothBoard once more.

I am getting the same result(this is when I set it to one WiiMote): SmoothConnect highlights the MAC address in green as I continuously push the 1&2 buttons, the status message displays four things in succession.
1. connecting
2. (very quick flash) Connected 1 Found 1
3. Installing
4. Loading Application.

My WiiMote is a Nyko brand. Does that matter?

Is there anything else that I can try to enable this to work?

This is the error screen that I keep seeing.

Does the Wiimote Blue LED's continue to blink after the connecting? You may try removing and reinserting the batteries of the Wiimote. Also, the number of blinking LEDs indicate the battery level remaining. Make sure that there is 3 or 4 Blue LEDs blinking.

Non-genuine Wiimotes tend to have issues with the IR camera and also the connectivity.

You may want to try with a genuine Wiimote.

SUCCESS!!

It seems that the connectivity issue that I was having was due to the Nyko brand WiiMote that I was using. I have tried using the same software with the same Bluetooth Adapter with a genuine WiiMote, and it worked perfectly!

Thank you so much for helping me troubleshoot this issue. I am looking forward to being able to use this functionality.
