I've exhausted every option, and I still can't connect my Wii remote.

First of all, my machine has Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit).
I bought the Bluetooth dongle that was recommended from Sparkfun:
http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=150
.
The actual product was different than pictured. In the device manager, it appears as "Broadcom Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR USB dongle."
I noticed something odd when, after the installation of the included software, a "My Bluetooth Places" was nowhere to be found. I tried getting the updated software from here:
http://www.broadcom.com/products/bluetooth_update.php
, and there was a "My Bluetooth Places." I tried connecting the Wii remote after one installation and then the other. In both cases, the Wii remote would say that it connected in Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Set up a Bluetooth enabled device with no passkey.
When connected, or so the Bluetooth Devices window in the Control Panel said, both GlovePie and Wiinremote did not get any response. The bottom four blue lights continued to flash and player 1 was never chosen (I believe it's that it did not enumerate) even when a program started. I got the same result with thex's app, from
http://www.wiimoteproject.com/wiimote-and-bluetooth-connectivity/wiimoteconnect-searching-beta-testers-update-please-test-it-t954.0.html
.
Failing at that, I tried Bluesoleil. I tried many versions, from 1.X.X to 5.X.X. I either got the, apparently common, message "Can not start Bluetooth. Bluetooth hardware is not found." or my system crashed with version 2.3 or 2.2 (somewhere around there).
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I'm desperate. I've been at it for hours. In addition to Mr. Lee's projects, I wanted to try out

, but without Wii remote detection, it is impossible.

for my application you need the standard vista stack, not the widdcom one
it works great on my vista machine!
try installing the standard vista stack with your bt dongle and test my app again.

Forgive me if this question has an obvious answer or has been answered before. How can one be sure that their device is either 1)installed with the standard Vista stack or 2)force it to install with the standard Vista stack?
EDIT: Nevermind. I got it to work with your connection app. Thanks. Unfortunately, that Half Life 2 mod says that it cannot use the XP stack. The fact that this works with GlovePIE and not the mod leads me to believe that, like the XP stack, the Vista stack cannot be used. The main site is down for the mod, so I'll never know if this is a widespread issue, if there are plans to include Vista stack support, etc.
Well, I'm glad something works. It's too bad a lot of the stuff I see requires Bluesoleil. I'll have to try out the fix that was stickied.
EDIT 2: WiinRemote still does not work. I'm looking into it now.

wiinremote doesent work for me too, but wiipresenter works fine.
also many of johns applications need some change to run it with another stack than bluesoleil!
read here:

maybe this piece of code is also missing in the wiinremote but it isn't open source...
you can download the wiilib, wich johnnys apps and many others are based on. it comes with a test utility, if that one will run all of the programms should run.
