Title: Wiimote connected but no results
Post by: Zwaf on February 17, 2008, 03:23:56 AM
Hey guys,

We're trying to get the wiimote (and the guitar) to work with a Windows Vista notebook with build-in bluetooth chip (broadcom 2045) and with a Windows XP desktop system (BT: ASUS BTD-201).
Both systems are running version 5.1.2535.0 of bluetooth stack.
Also got a Winbond CIR Receiver (, which is an IR-receiver.

Tryed out several tutorials but we can't completely figure it out.
We managed to succesfully connect the wiimote to both the systems:

And we can see it in the device list as an HID:

We conclude that the connetion is all right since when a button is pushed on the wiimote, the bluetooth led on the dongle actually starts flashing (it does that when it is communicating) and when we look at the communication between the 2 devices it says the wiimote is sending packages and that the signal is between GOOD and TOO STRONG. Also, a little program we installed, called wiinmote, says the wiimote is ACTIVE.

We also installed glovePIE and PPjoy as the tutorial told us to do.
We ran some sort of script in glovePIE, like the following:

Code: [Select]
            alt = Wiimote.Up         // Change Rate-Of Fire
          shift = Wiimote.Down       // Melee
  mouse.WheelUp = Wiimote.Left       // Last Weapon
mouse.WheelDown = Wiimote.Right      // Next Weapon

 mouse.LeftButton = Wiimote.B        // Primary Fire
mouse.RightButton = Wiimote.A        /* Secondary Fire -> Change RightMouseButton
                                        to Aim Down Sight instead of Toggle For
                                        a more CoD3-like experience */

     f = Wiimote.Minus               // Use
     r = Wiimote.Minus               // Reload
   Tab = Wiimote.Home                // View Score
Escape = Wiimote.Plus                // Menu

As you can see it should 'mouse-click' when you use wiimote button B (right?) But the problem is... it doesn't work.. and neither do all the other buttons. I'm sure this has nothing to do with PPjoy since that program only simulates a joystick (for use as a controller is some games, cos windows currently only reads the wiimote as a keyboard) but what else?

To cut a long story short, the 2 devices are connected and can communicate but windows or whatever isn't capable of turning the incoming wiimote signals into keystrokes.

Help is appriciated. And since we're also making a youtube tutorial afterwards, you'll be helping a lot of others too.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that I use the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack .. should I use the BlueSoleil one ? And which version would be good for the chip I've got?

Ok I can now manage to get the wiimote to rumble and change leds.
Communication PC -> Wiimote is working.
(used FIX BLUETOOTH in glovepie) but communication wiimote -> PC
isn't working yet.

On Vista, you will need to get it to say "No passkey" and "Connected" in the bluetooth control panel applet for "Nintendo RVL-CNT-01".

I have been able to get things working (but not I can't consistently get the "Connected" state) using Vista on a DELL D620 laptop.  I think the DELL uses a CSR bluetooth chip, which is different from yours.  I did not use Blue Soleil.

Have you tried the latest version of the WiimoteLib (1.2.1)?  With that comes a  WiimoteTest program which is helpful in seeing what is going on with communications - it will show on the PC screen when buttons are pressed on the wiimote, etc.

i have the same problem.

so far i see this
if i take the baterys off and put them again the wiimote works!!!! whit the WiimoteTest wich came with  WiimoteLib_1.2.1.
it work perfect until i start WiinRemote. if i close wiimotest first i have the same results.
and i was able to have two wiimotetest running at the same time whit out any problem.
when it stop working i take the batterys put them and wiimotetest work again.

i am running vista home premium. on a laptop, TX1030LA.

maybe wiinremote and the other software are sending some buggy command to the wiimote???

i have the solution!!!!
i have the program running, and maybe is the solution for all the other programs!!!!

is very simple.

i downloaded the source code of the wiimotelib from http://www.codeplex.com/WiimoteLib

first i changed the line

public event WiimoteChangedEventHandler WiimoteChanged;
public event WiimoteChangedEventHandler OnWiimoteChanged;

then i added the metod GetBatteryLevel() (i take it from the wiidesktopvr wiimotelib implmentation)

i get the source code of the wiidesktopvr and i removed the wiimotelib implmentation from the reference and added the recompiled one (see above)

and it si working now!!!!!
where i can submit the code and the exe????

i have attached the source code and in the folder release you can find the working exe.
remeber disable desktop composition. and play whit the options in the same window
