Title: Best USB Bluetooth adapter
Post by: Spurtus on January 16, 2008, 04:25:23 PM
Mmmmninny ninny num num ...ok deep breath, so it seems my internal bluetooth for my HP Dv9500 laptop doesnt work, with anything, BS or windows stack. A tad annoying, I really don't get why we have so many compatibility issues with something that is effectively defining a protocol...does it not?.. makes one wonder about the future of 'bluetooth'

anyway...rant over..I wanted to ask for some advice..

Question is what USB bluetooth adapter can you recommend?
I'd prefer to run the windows stack rather than blue soleil if possible..
I'm running vista, I'm UK based so if you know of the ideal place to get the right adapter for cheap please post a link.

many thanks,
spurtus.

Ps. running DX10 isnt an issue is it for any of johnnys apps is it?

I dont know about the windows stack, but I'm using vista as well, so i might give you some info. I use the Sitecom CN512 bluetooth dongle (9.99 euro's here). The wiimote test.exe did work with the windows stack, but the other programs didnt, so i installed bluesoleil (I know you prefer not to), and it works like a charm.
About DX10, it's not a problem at all. Only thing i found out was that you need to disable the special desktop features at the compatibily tab when you're running the headtracking demo. It seems that fixes the directX error that otherwise pops up.

Greets,
Bart

got it working!,

I purchased a LINKSYS class 1 USBBT100 usb bluetooth adapter, and this working with the default BT stack, i.e. no BlueSoleil, and no changes to the code, except to make the desktopVR program a windowed app.
I also removed the showcursor hiding method in the code.

I hope this helps somebody who had the sort of problems I had.

FYI : I'm running Vista 32 bit, DX10, VS2008, .NET 3.5 on a HP dv9500 series laptop, I installed the bluetooth software that comes with the Linksys USB BT adpater. The DesktopVR app and the Wiimote Lib test application both work.

Now to build a headset!,

as said in the forums before, if you disable visual themes on your executable then the app will run full screen.

I highly recommend the Linksys Class 1 Bluetooth adaptor.  I picked one up after reading this thread and it works freakin' great!

I'm running Windows XP, but it works with the Linksys software perfectly.

yes i have that same adapter, USBBT100 v1 and i have used it on windows xp and vista on the default driver stack without installing the linksys application or bluesoliel. Its a pretty good little stick, i've had i for a while and this is by far the best use for it yet.
