Author Topic: Wiimote previously connected to Wii console has connection issues!  (Read 9614 times)

Hi all,

I have all of the software installed (smoothboard and Whiteboard) and a bluetooth stack that works.  I have a Wiimote that I have previously used on my Wii console, about a year old.  When I got through all the steps for connecting I am able to see that the device is "connected" but when I run either app it tells me "no HID device found in list".

I have also purchased a brand new Wiimote and before connecting to the Wii I thought I would try it with the same hardware configuration and hey presto! it connects and I was able to track a simple TV remote control (havent built an IR pen yet) using the software.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem and have any top tips?  Any help would be much appreciated so I dont have to buy another Wiimote!!

Hi Alistair,

Which Bluetooth Stack are you using? If you are using the MS Bluetooth stack, you may want to try to automatically connect your Wiimotes with SmoothConnect.

You should also try to connect both Wiimote simultaneously and set Smoothboard to connect to multiple Wiimotes (Settings->Wiimotes)

A Wiimote which is paired to the Wii console should not have any issues with the connection to the computer. The Wiimote may just try to start up the Wii console if the console is powered in standby.

Hi Boon,

thanks for the quick reply! I am using XP and an LM technologies bluetooth adapter. 

I couldnt seem to find smoothconnect when I downloaded Smoothboard 1.6 and I still have the same problem of the Wiimote not being in the HID list.  Initially I thought it may have been the Bluetooth connection that I was trying to use but I now know that it definitely works as I tested it with a remote control. 

Any advice on using Smoothconnect?

What Bluetooth stack are you using. Smoothconnect(in built in Smoothboard ver 1.6) only works with MS bluetooth stack.

Whatever BT stack you use, the first thing to do is to go to device manager and uninstall/delete all BT HID devices.
Then pair/connect the wiimote. If you are using 1 wiimote, there should be only 1 BT HID device in the device manager in th HUman Interface device list after connecting.  There is also a problem with widcomm stack which is not too friendly with Wiimotes.

If you are not having a BT adapter that uses a MS stack it is advisable to disable the internal BT and get an external BT dongle which uses MS stack. It is then a simple case of starting up Smoothboard ver 1.6 and it will pair/connect and start Smoothboard all by itself.

Hi again,

I am using Windows XP operating system with a compatible BT adapter.  My brand new Wiimote connects fine and in the device manager listing I get 2 new entries (Bluetooth virtual HID device and HID-compliant game controller) when the Wiimote is connected and working. 

These settings work with both Smoothboard and Whiteboard apps and I can get tracking etc.  When I use my older Wiimote that I previously had connected to the Wii console I follow exactly the same steps as before but when I open either application it says there is no wiimote in the HID device list.

When I open the device manager, there is no entry for "HID-compliant game controller" as there was previously.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Hagoh,

Thanks for the reply to my post.  I deleted all the entries in the HID device list which required alot of rebooting of my computer but I can now use any Wiimote I like so thanks for your help  :D
