Title: Windows Device Driver for the Wii Remote - HID Wiimote
Post by: jloehr on July 06, 2014, 03:00:36 PM

first of all: if such "advertisement" post aren't allowed i'm sorry and feel free to close and/or delete the thread.

However, i have written a native Windows device driver for the Wii Remote, which enables it as a native game controller. As some of you may know, the Wii Remote is recognized as a HID-Device exposing a game controller. But this game controller has no inputs. My driver fixes this issue and adds input buttons and axes.

Currently the driver is in a very basic state, only exposing the core buttons and tilt.
There are some issues with the installation as well, but it's working.

I would like to have some feedback, whether such driver is needed and someone would use it, since there are programs like GlovePIE.

If someone want to give it a try, here are the install instructions. On the Project Homepage (http://julianloehr.de/educational-work/hid-wiimote/) are some more detailed information and instructions.

The deactivation of the Driver Signature Verification is necessary because the driver is not signed yet and Windows(64Bit) won't load it otherwise.

Furthermore Windows may still load the old default driver, then you have to switch the driver:
"Device-Manager" -> "Bluetooth-HID-Device" (The Wii Remote) -> "Update Driver Software" -> “Browse my computer for driver software” -> “Let me pick from a list on my computer” -> "Wiimote Device”

The driver is working with the old Wii Remote(RVL-CNT-01) as well as the new one (RVL-CNT-01-TR).

I would be very glad to hear some feedback.
