I'm building an LCD projector with the intention of coupling it with a wiimote whiteboard setup, and I am curious as to a few things.  But I'll explain how I'm creating it.

I have an older LCD monitor whose backlights burned out some time ago, which I've dismantled and will use to display my picture.  using two magnifiers, one in front and one behind the lcd, bend and magnify the image.  A projector lens to orient and give control over the image's sharpness, and a light source to project the image onto the wall.

My main question right now is about the light source.  I've read around a bit, and a lot of people prefer halogen lights.  I really dont want to put that much heat into my DIY projector, but I still would like a nice clear picture that I can get up to about 40" wide.  Many suggest 300-600w halogen.  I am curious as to whether anyone here knows much about light sources, and if I could substitute the harsh halogen for a cooler, greener light source.

Right now, I've got my LCD screen to the point to where I have to solder some insanely tiny points to other insanely tiny points in order to get the design to function well.  Heh.

All tips and constructive comments are appreciated.

you need an HQI lamp. Makes more light, a whiter light and less heat than halogen...

Cool, thanks for the tip!

Hopefully this page will translate pretty well so that I can read what's going on!

Thanks again, I'll give it a shot!

Have a look at this site for DIY LCD data Projectors...they even sell kits so you don't have to chase everything down and wait for parts.
