Hi,

Has anyone else used any other IR camera as opposed to the wiimote?

Cheers
Bobby

I have only seen on a small scale. Trackability was OK but the lag was the killer. I you use a Webcam for Skype or anyother internet chat you will know what I mean. To get a decent webcam you are paying more than the Wiimote without the extra features.

I sure most on this forum will be well biased but if you can acheive the same quality on the same scale for the same cost (sorry but I can't help it: good luck with that!) please let us know.

Hi benpaddlejones,

Thanks for the reply.

So you recon that Nintendo make a loss on the sale of a wiimote?

Cheers

Let's hope that if they are, they never realize it... :P

What of using the wiimote in commercial products? Would that be going against Nintendo's policies? Not re-selling, but just using them to make money.

Interesting question, as few issues:
1. We are not in breach of any intellectually property rights (unlike some (not all) Homebrew)
2. We openly advocate the purchase of licensed devices
3. Many users have purchased hardware that would not purchase hardware otherwise (The most important item)

Yes we are a niche market and I donít expect one of Nitendoís Sales executives to start hanging around this site to build sales but I have no doubt they are more than happy to let us roll. They have Wiimotes sitting at the front of a classroom filled with children, which is the dream of every youth marketeer.

Unless Nitendo's marketing department suddenly decides to destroy its brand they will be quite happy to leave us alone. Given the above points one day VR might end up in a Wiigame (obviously with Branded VR Goggles $$$).

The only way I see Nitendo affecting us is if they put pressure on the IP hosts of the Wiibrewers and we accidently get caught in the crossfire.

Which is why in my external links I have been very seelctive with our external connections. Wiibrew like us strongly advocates licensed hardware and working with the patent.

What is important we are not doing anything Illegal or in breach of Patents. Otherwise MS could sue you for using one of their Mice on a Mac?

Thanks for the link. Isn't it funny how the information is here, but when you search the wrong keywords nothing comes up?

I'll pass to Dice but I'm guessing its because the search engine looks at the tags first and these have been turned off. In my expereince with metadata is sound tagging is an art that few posses!
