As per title, would make quite an interesting little virtual window if used with a video instead of a picture?

Project Ideas / Using a wiimote as a cheap version of TrackIR?
« on: November 29, 2009, 06:40:36 AM »
Anyone got any scripts etc to be able to do this? I've seen it in action on youtube but I'm looking to use it in a FPS game. I assume it won't get in the way of the mouse movements? I want to be able to aim with the mouse and look with the head tracking of the wiimote.  (By the way, I need 2 wiimotes connected at the same time if that makes a difference, one providing the head tracking, other providing the use of the buttons.)

I've got a project in the making and this is the last piece I want to put in it that I can't work out myself. I'll post a video in the next few weeks of it all in action!

Anyone know whether Battlefield Heroes supports aiming and looking in different directions? If not a cheap alternative game that will run on a not so good pc?

Also a couple of other quick questions that someone may know the answer to:

1. I can't seem to get the nunchuck to work well with glovepie, the wiimote and the buttons on the nunchuck work well but the joystick part is very unreliable. I'm looking to map the joystick to WASD on the keyboard for up/down/left/right, does anyone have a link to a guide as to how to get that to work? All I've managed to get is up or down to do WS at the same time (both up and down). That probably doesn't make much sense but suffice to say that it doesn't work! Do I need to use PPJoy or something? Maybe someone has a link that could help me?

2. I seem to have to remove the wiimote from the bluetooth connection screen in windows and then add it all over again when I want to reconnect. Is there a simpler way? Could I use smoothconnect to connect the wiimote and then use glovepie instead of smoothboard??

Thankyou for any help you can offer!

Project Ideas / Full body tracking using infra red LED's?
« on: November 29, 2009, 04:35:01 AM »
Hi there,

Wondering if anyone's tried this before or whether you think it could be a good idea.

Basically attach 4 infra red LED's to your body, one to each knee and one to each hand and then point a wiimote at yourself. Then via some software attach each led to the same point on a virtual character and then as you move about your character will do much the same on screen. Cheap body movement tracker?

Or maybe using 4 wiimotes attached to your body but that would be more expensive.

What do you think?

I'm looking to make some gloves to be used via either the wiimote or an IR webcam. What I'm looking for is to have an IR LED on both forefingers, these leds would permenatly be on and would act as cursors. The fingers of the gloves would then have metal contacts so to be able to pinch two fingers together to create the circuit which would then do a click for that cursor. Not sure exactly how that would work but would it be possible that it's just another IR LED on another finger and when the software sees another one light up then it realises it's a click, or would it just get confused and think it's the other glove?

Basically this:  (from 3:25 onwards)

But with cursors!

Thanks for any help.

Project Ideas / Has Motion Plus been added to the pc yet?
« on: October 05, 2009, 10:11:06 AM »
I've looked all around but it appears no-one has got this to work on the pc yet? If someone knows something would they let me know!!

I'm basically looking for something like the gyration mouse but my project already uses one and I don't think you can use two independently on the same computer at the same time? If there's a way of seperating them so they give seperate inputs, ie one like a mouse and the other like a joystick then that would be cool too!

Wiimote Finger Tracking / Finger tracking crashes as soon as loaded.
« on: January 15, 2008, 02:34:32 PM »
Anyone know a solution to this?  As soon as I run the finger tracking program it crashes and asks if I want to send the crash info to Microsoft.  I have checked that I have .net 2.0 and directx 9.0c.

Any ideas anyone???
