My IR Project! So I went to the local Walgreen's and I was looking in the pen and office supplies section and they didnt have any LED pens or bigger pens. I am trying to make one as sleek as possible. no external power, no tape, just nice and sharp looking, Professional is guess.
So I went to the automotive section and I see this:

And found patent info on the side and looked it up to find this.
Here is the seller description:
"Chass Touch Sensor Flashlight. This Chass flashlight features a new technology LED
carbon sensor with touched activated on/off. This flashlight has a silver/black finish.Size: 7/8 x 5 x 1 1/8" H.Weight: 1.3 oz"
Right now it has a white Led standard one nothing super bright and its running off of 2 AAA 3V power. From the looks of it I do not think there is any resistors. Oh and it has a power button so it will stay off if you want. The price at walgreens was $5.99
Here is my plan1. Take the device apart (need a very small screw driver, ill do that at work.)
2. Take one of the AAA batteries and put electrical tape on the top and bottom and run a foil from top to bottom, making the device 1.5V.
3. Take old white 5mm LED off and replace it with the 1.5V IR LED and solder that on. (might need to remove a resistor as well.)
4. Test the device out.
I know that simple stuff and all, but I like to have it all written down.
Reasons why I think this will work well*The Angle in the front will allow the user to position the device towards the wiimote.
*The Touch on and off with the ability to have a permanent power off, will be very easy to manage.
*The Lens is focused well, if the tip of the device is on a surface it makes a very clear circle with less rings out site.
Well that is it for now, if this works well, I will make a full guide on how to do this.
