Hi all ive just bought two laser pointer pens to use with the Wii remote however the Wii remote dosnt seem to pick them up only when i point them directly at the remote but even then the Visible IR Dots only flashes for a second.
The Pens are a KEY CHAIN L99AC LASER PONITER:
Wavelength: 650-680 nM
Output Power:1 mW
Battery: 1.5V x 3 = 4.5V
Surely these pens are powerful enough as they go pretty far and produce a good laser, any ideas anyone?.

Hi,

I think you sould replace the laser beamer by an IR diode.

Im a bit confused here as these are a class II laser which i thought was IR?.

Hi,

Laser is not IR.

Laser (about 660 nm is visible, your eyes can see the red point)

IR (infrared) is 950 nm, you can't see it. It's like the remote
for control TV.

You may be confuse:
- by video, because some camera see IR and transpose it to red color,
like in Johnny demo.
- by the fact that laser (and other red led) emmit a small amount of
infrared light than the wiimote can see, but not enought to get
working application.

I've stared with red led instead of infrared and i get the same problem...

Yep thanks for the explaination i think i also got confused because i saw some IR Laser Pointer Pens online and then bought these not realising that they are just Laser Pointers not IR Laser Pointers. Im stuck with these if i cant get my money back so do you think it will be ok to change them to IR?.

esy way to check if your IR pen is visible: point it at a digital camera, they can see IR light.

Hi,

Changing the laser diode by an IR diode may require skill in soldering iron.

But it's the best way to get professional looking pen, without adhesive tape ...

So it's what I've done.
