a hardware in my area has these with white led's. i had the same idea but couldnt get the main part out to change the led.they are assembled well but it seems a little too well for my comfort of ripping it apart. the top of mine does not unscrew and pressure would need to be applied directly to the led which could damage its inner workings.also mine said to be waterproof so that lead me to believe a sealant or adhesive was used upon initial assembly.you can try it but i had no luck. that company does actually make an IR version if you can find them.plus AAAA batteries are harder to find and more expensive.plus the on switch is on the very back which makes it harder if you are trying to do mouse clicks with it.
