I just saw it on the dealextremer website: the InfraRed IR USB Presenter and its price about $14,40 (free shipping). The thing that make I thinking about that it could work in a range >= 10 meters. Can we using this Presenter for the IR-pen?. Anyone had try this one yet? I wonder if it work with the Wiimote that should be a good deal for us, i.e. avoid making IR-pen :-).

Another question is: can we take out the led inside the the wii sensor bar to make IR-pen?

I don't know my question is repeated or not if yes please block it, thank.

Hello JackieC,

I had a look at the product you were asking about. It looks like it uses an infrared LED to send information back to the receiver. As it is, it would probably be just like using a TV remote as a IR pen, the IR LED would flash rapidly. The Wiimote Whiteboard did not work when I tried it with a TV remote.

The device could be modified, I do not know how easy it would be. It would involve some soldering, possibly cutting circuit board tracks and adding a resistor to get one of the buttons to turn the IR LED on. After these mods it would probably work well, but it might be difficult to even get to the circuit board.

It would be possible to modify a sensor bar to make an IR pen, but you would destroy your sensor bar in the process. I was impressed by the IR pen shown by http://undcon.com/mods/irpen/ which looks fairly simple to make.

Here is my instructable of how to do it - at the moment I'm stuck at the 3rd step as my soldering iron is misplaced by a friend who borrowed it :(

The UndCon pen also inspire my #1 pen.
You must try the "Momentary Switch with Lever and !!!Roller Wheel!!!". Like I said: the Rolls Royce of the switchs!
