so i just tried to wire up an IR pen using a AAA as the power source, which was the end result of a series of faliures

so radioshack didn't have a single-track AAA holder, just double. So i had to cut their double-track in half with a hacksaw (took a while), and then sand the rest down to fit inside the pen body (took even longer).

This was during i was trying to wire the whole thing, turns out wire doesn't bend too well.

long story short, i was never able to make a complete circuit through the battery pack, i broke at least 3 solder connections from force along ect.

damn I'm tired.

I'll get some N-batteries next time.

You should be able to buy single AAA battery holders from farnell or mouser.

Could you also change you topic heading so it relates more to your issue? This will help others finding the exact information they need. Your heading implies that the AAA battery is the problem not the case. Suggest something along the line of:"I'm having trouble modifying a double AAA battery case to fit inside an IR-Pen".

You can try to get this one

no different than the one i used, in fact that AAA casing seems larger

what i need to do is cut off either end of the AAA casing (the spring and the tab ends) and make some kind of...."spring" that acts as a casing. Any idea what i'm talking about? I've seen them around, it's like a angular bow-shaped piece of metal, and on either end are the battery contacts. That would save a tone of space, but keeping the battery in place will be troublesome.

I have had success cutting the radio shacks in half

Used a soldering iron:

Then I just made my own out of a popsicle stick

Hope this helps!
