Title: Simple and efficient enhancement of the IR arch of emission
Post by: Torden on October 27, 2008, 06:05:30 PM
I don't know if this idea has been posted before, but I think it's pretty cool. This enhancement increases the emission arch of the diode so the wii remote will see it much better. A lot of you guys has recommended strong diodes with big emission angles, but it is not necessary at all. Another benefit from this design is the elimination of the wii seeing 2 dots as a result of reflection on the smartboard. Below is a sketch of my design, and my prototype is working surprisingly efficient. Enjoy, and comment if you have further ideas :)

Hi
Very interesting. Can you share your experience with this concept and a jpg picture of your pen. Thank you

I second that. A picture would be nice. I like the design, and if it's efficient, then I think it should be tested in more than one persons hands in as many different situations as possible.

What LED are you using specifically, and how does it compare to before you put in the reflective solder?

Anyone tried this out and can give more info?

Hi
Yes, I tried this concept and it works very well, but you lose power and usually you see two IR points and that's bothering. At the end, you have no angle problem, but you have to be pretty close to the wiimote, because the IR light gets less bright.

This company with their retail IR Wand / Pen have a giant Glass globe that fits around the LED

Hi Bubka,

I've even tried a fresnel lens that fits a led, but did not work as well as I expected.

Fresnel lens 5mm raised green

Would you please let us know the website about the glass globe you're talking.
Take care
