We made a custom sensor bar following the instuctions on this website we found, though we didnt include the drivers: http://obsiv.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!948789BF56FAF394!139.entry.
Basically, there are two groups of 9 Vishay TSAL6400,  powered by two standard 9v batteries with a toggle switch in the circuit. It works great, though we plan to eventually remove the batteries and attach a wall plug. Our main questions are: with our current and future set ups, should we be using a resistor? Also, though both arrays can run off one 9v power source, do we need two? and how will that affect using a wall adapter?

I tried making my own sensor bar as well, but it seems to be dead.

I used a 33 Ohm resistor in series with two Radio Shack IR LEDs and 4 AAAs + switch.

Voltmeter says the connections are good but the Wiimote does not see it.  It worked for a bit, but after I squeezed it in a box it seems dead.

Think I burned out the LEDs?  Wrong resistor?

Or did I break a contact and I don't know how to use a voltmeter?

My background is chemistry+computer, so solder and electricity is sketchy...
