I'm just wondering if one of those IR thermometers would work? Is it made the same way or does it function the same way? If so could this be used instead?

Seems like a great idea, I'll be looking for this pen or something similar.

By the way, why do you say that this wouldn't work with the whiteboard app? The only reason why I see it wouldn't is because the IR light is inside the holster but that shouldn't really make a difference.
