I have been using this, but I think the .net framework got updated now it crashes... here is my error

I think mine was about 3.5 at the source, sometimes lower, maybe higher, but I have it running through some descent gauge speaker wire at a distance (a resistor) so I am fine.  You could use any DC power source if you use the right resistor just so it is at the 3v.

There were lots of horror stories about some cheap USB (5v) wii charger that was over volting wii remotes.

My multi universal AC/DC set at 3v puts out a little bit over 3v; however, by the time it reaches my ceiling mounted wiimote, and the sensor bar (parallel circuit), the voltage is less than 3v.  Wiimote reports around 88% which I calculate to be about 2.4v

3v is fine, exactly what two AA alkaline would supply.  Don't be surprised if it reports over 100% battery though.

It is easy, I will post a video maybe tomorrow.  It is nice for teaching because you don't have to block 1/2 to 1/3 of the class for basic annotations and such.  The large one is only good for very large writing.  Anything too small makes it difficult to control the IR at the end to that precise.  Although the more you use it, the better you get.  That's why I made the smaller one.

There is usually a polarity switch too, or it will tell you if the center or outside is +/-.  If it does not have that, the wire with the white stripe is negative.

Make sure the DC output is around 3volts!

I guess if one is off then the overall calibration is not effect as much.  I know if I got one of the 4 wrong, I am in trouble on that corner of the board.

I got this idea from a commercial product which had the IR mounted on the end of a retractable telescopic pointer.

I have used the wiimote whiteboard in my classroom for over half the school year now and have noticed that:

  • students have trouble triangulated themselves outside of the camera and the IR LED
  • students don't hold the pen in a favorable angle for IR detection

So, I see the AV Rover people have thought of this in their design, thus the telescopic mount.

Now I have a telescopic pointer, but I was not willing to sacrifice it, so I just used a wooden dowel rod mounted in the now infamous dry erase marker.

This is my 3rd custom pen, and I will say probably the best yet.  I made two types, a short for writing, and a long for mostly pointing and easy annotations.


Here it is all apart:


I got tired of buying double AAA battery housings and having to cut them in half so I just made my own from some extra "chromosome" popsicle sticks with some old electronics battery connections


Here are the momentary switches that I have been using, in the past I have mounted a popsicle stick over top which make it easier to engage.


The dowel rod had the LED mounted at the end which is partially split down the center so the + and - IR LED leads fit in.  This one I put electrical tape all the way down.

Good question: two possibilities

A: it could be a 1:1 ratio in terms of the field of vision, its just that it tracks better in the X (side to side) than Y because of the higher resolution.

B: it sees further out of the X than the Y

Alright, here is my setup.  I also have an erase pushing down on the red sync button so that when the power adapter is plugged in, the fixed ceiling mounted wiimote does not need to be synced by pressing the 1 & 2 buttons.

The power source:  Mutli-out DC adapter set to 3 volts, I have taped over the adjustment to prevent accidental over volting.


The wire is from the old analog CD-ROM output to sound card cable:
