Personal Mobility Robot Controlled By Nintendo Wiimote

"Let’s face it, Personal Mobility Robots (PMR) aren’t as cool as they were years ago, but controlling anything aside from a Nintendo Wii using the Wiimote is always a cool affair, and that’s what some of the brains over at the University of Tokyo have done. What will the Wiimote control next? Perhaps it’s possible that in the future that we’ll discover pilots in the cockpit were really using Wiimotes to fly us around the world, eh?"

Control Firefox with a Nintendo Wiimote (?!)

"The open source initiative needs a catchphrase. 'If you can dream it!', or something. 'Build it and they will come!' -- seriously, the audacity of FLOSS  developers, combined with a (surprising...) amount of free time to develop crazy-**LOVE** inventions, never ceases to amaze. Case in point: take a look at the Firefox Nintendo Wiimote driver. Watch the video (it's after the break). Cool huh?

It looks a little clunky to me, but for a few lines of C++ and Javascript, wrapped up into a normal Firefox XPI add-on... it's pretty damn neat! Whipping through tabs could be pretty convenient... if you're in bed... and you have a projector!

Who needs a mouse...

Incidentally, only Linux users can install the add-on (source code here) -- but looking at the readme, it seems simple enough to set up. Are there any Linux + Wii users out there that want to give it a go and report back?"

Winscape Turns Your HDTV into a Window

"Mac: You know the movie version of the future where instead of real windows, we've got virtual ones that offer beautiful views of anything we want? Application Winscape pairs your Wiimote with a flat panel TV (or two) to do just that.

It's a seriously geeky project, and it's one that would require a pretty big commitment, but the results, which you can see in the video above, are actually incredibly impressive. The app is free to try, and costs $10 if you want to stick with it after 30 runs.

Hit up the Winscape homepage for more details on this crazy but cool project (including how they built it). You'd be crazy to replace an actual view with a virtual one, but this seems like the perfect (if impractical) project for a window-less room—if you're sitting on a pile of cash, that is."

IR Pens / Surface Mounted LEDs
« on: September 14, 2009, 04:51:45 PM »
Has anyone tried using Surface Mount LEDs for IR Pens, they are much smaller and some can do 60 degrees or better.  I am wondering if you clustered them together say 4 of them in a pyramid would it work?  and how well.

Just thought about it over the weekend.

Announcements / Server Up and Down time
« on: March 15, 2009, 03:29:12 PM »
Members and guests,

I just wanted to take this time to one say sorry for all the down time in this passed week.   I have been working with our host to get the server running better but they have failed to fix the issue.   I am currently looking for a new host and may have found one.

The server seems to be going down later own in the night.  Today it was down for quite some time and I had to reboot the server to get it back up.

I hope to have a new host by the end of the week.

Again sorry for all the down time!
