A really cool site/feature that is a joy to use with your wiimote is "Flame"

Go check this application out - and when u tested it for a few minutes with your mouse - start up your projector - aim your wiimote and start creating on the wall :)

Probably 1 of the best IRdiodes available for your IRpens, arrays or other similar projects.

I order them relatively cheap so I ship them as cheap as possible to your location and we use my Paypal account to transfer money. (If you use Paypal I have to add the fee for the total transaction)

Example 1:

Shipping as regular mail within Europe is less than 2
Ill charge 1.50 for 5 IRdiodes.
Fee for Paypal = 0.35
Ends up at 3.85 for 5 top grade diodes shipped to your location within Europe.

Example 2:
Shipping as regular mail to US (any state) is about $2

Ill charge $2 for 5 IRdiodes.
Paypal fee =$0.50
Shipping $2
Ends up at $4.50 for 5 top grade diodes shipped to your location, any state in US.

Now that I sold over 100 diodes to over 10 countries I can sum it all up. the only money I made on this is from you friendly "customers" who donated more money than your order ended up on.

IR Pens / IR LED Comparison

I took a picture of my 2 IR-pens side by side



Here we see 1 noname IR from a tv remote probably about 20 years old

And the brighter (brand new) one is rated like this:
IF: 100 mA
clear: 5 mm
beam: ±25°
VF: 1,2 V
Wavelength: 940 nm


Ill receive a box of Vishays 6400's this week - it will be nice to compare them as well...

I reinstalled my laptop that I have been using for my Wiimote-experiences so I thought it would be a nice opportunity to write down every step needed to get up and running.

I have a HP-laptop (ZE2229EA) about 4 years old, running a clean install of Windows XP.
Patched to Servicepack 3 and all latest available from windows update as of yesterday(2008-07-22)

Here is all steps I had to do to get Smoothboard by BoonJin going.


Installed Bluetooth with windows default drivers (I have a billionton adapter)

Paired Wiimote with computer without passcode, pressing button 1 & 2 on the Wiimote during pairing process.

Tried to start up Smoothboard with the following error: 0xc0000135

Download: DirectX SDK from Microsoft as this is a known problem that DirectX SDK is missing.

I install DirectX SDK (that also installs .NET 1.1 Framework)

Try to start Smoothboard again and gets the error that I need .NET 2.0

Download: .NET 2.0

Try to start Smoothboard and this time it starts up OK without any error messages.

Blue LEDS stops flashing on Wiimote at this time and is just "on", they have been flashing all time since pairing.

Initial test with calibration shows me that it works just fine




Conclusion:

Not very hard, just a few things to download.
It probably helps out having a good Bluetooth dongle ;)

If you (like me) have an Sony Ericsson P1i Cellphone and would like to use your Wiimote I can recommend this:

(something that is not possible without this as I've tried to pair my devices without luck)

Wiimote Interactive Whiteboard / PicLens

If you are using your Whiteboard and are looking for something cool to play with I can suggest PicLens.

It's a free add-on for Firefox that enables you to view pictures in a really cool way

Check out their website for a cool video displaying many features.

Best of all - works very well with my IR-pen

IR Pens / Instructable for IR pen

Here are the instructions of how to make an IR pen like mine

Sorry for the quality of the pics - I used the cam on my Sony Ericsson P1
(A link to bigger pics is at the bottom of this post)

OK here we go...I do this on a brand new marker so there might be some amounts of color that drips out (be careful)
We need 1 marker, Faber Castell (#48 is my choice of color)



Bring a pair of pliers from your toolbox


Start by removing the felt tip with the pliers, pull straight out


As you can see its quite long, just about to come loose...


There we go...throw it in the bin (we wont use it again)


Grab the rear cap...


It comes of very easy - and we see a clear cap inside


Time to remove the clear cap - this one is glued and requires more force


I forced it sideways and it came out in 2 pieces, just grab the rest and pull them out as well...


Time for the reservoir - push the pliers into the "fluff" and pull out


That's about it - only 1 step left this time


Rinse out excess color from the pen...


And here it is in all its glory



Now this part is finished - I let the pen dry up completely inside as we are going to mount electronics inside.

Whiteboard / Tablet setup

Here is a sample where you can use your VRDesktop (or any software) as a tablet.



A tripod is used to hold the wiimote above the working area.
A placemat is used as a working area.

Here is 1 version of my IRpen

Powered by 1 AAA battery but 2 can easily fit inside the pen.
1 very easy to use switch and a IRled that extends a bit in the front for better visibility

Wiimote Desktop VR/Head Tracking / Modified Wiimote Desktop VR

1st off... Hi and welcome to myself...UndCon - from Sweden...

I've been watching this project for quite some time and I finally purchased a Wiimote myself...

Connected without any problems I fired up WiiDesktop and played around (like any normally interested geek)

As I'm into C# programming I also Opened the project in Visual Studio2008 (project upgraded to latest technology without any problems)

I study the code for an hour or so and start hacking about...

Now I have moved lots of the variables into config.dat in order to make the application more userfriendly...

Now my config contains a few more alternatives:

Here you see that I now can set fog, grid, lines, targets and their positions and numbers, background & fullscreen by startup - easily done by modifying the config.dat values from True to False...

I also added (F) key bound to Fog...

I'm currently working on the colors...

lineColor, gridColor and fogColor is next to go...
(they will be bound to keys as well and I'll probably add a colorArray that can be used by all 3 new keys, like tapping a button will move to the next color in the colorArray...

Next on my ToDo-list is a folder for backgrounds where you can store any .PNG image you want...
A separate function to read files in a specified dir will be used for the Target as well...

A function "readDir" gets a parameter so you can call it to read both the "backgrounds" folder and the "targets" folder and it replies kindly with an array of image-names that can be changed by keystroke

And I'll probably add keys to change values for: numGridLines, boxdepth, fogDepth...and more?

(why not)

So I did some changes...improvements or bloats - It's all up to the user to decide...

When I'm finished or at least happy enough I'll release the code on a page dedicated to my Wiimote...

So you have some useful input or just want to give me a comment - bring it on ;)
