Wiimote Smoothboard / Smoothboard 1.6 with SmoothConnect
« on: September 07, 2009, 09:42:57 AM »
Hi All,

I have just released a new Smoothboard version with a quick connect feature, SmoothConnect.

Without pressing a button on the software, you are able to learn and connect your Wiimotes.

Just start the Smoothboard software and let the SmoothConnect feature connect to your Wiimote/Wiimotes in the background. The software can be hidden in the system tray just by clicking on the Exit button or by clicking on the system tray icon. Once the Wiimote/s is connected, Smoothboard will be automatically launched.

The number of Wiimote's SmoothConnect searches automatically is depending on Smoothboard's Wiimote setting of One or Two Wiimotes. This configurations can be found under Settings->Wiimotes.

SmoothConnect also allows you to select specific Wiimotes to avoid connecting to by just unchecking the specific Wiimote or by selecting the Wiimote and clicking the Remove Selected button.

Currently, the SmoothConnect feature is only available if you are using the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack. If the Bluetooth stack is not supported, Smoothboard will be launched like previously without the SmoothConnect feature.

The latest version of Smoothboard can be downloaded from here:

Wiimote Smoothboard / Smoothboard 1.5 Release
« on: July 10, 2009, 06:42:17 AM »
I have just released the latest version, Smoothboard 1.5 on
http://www.smoothboard.net

Smoothboard 1.5 is available in English and Chinese.

The highlights for the new release are summarized below:

Floating Toolbar
The latest version has a new Floating Toolbar to allow users to quickly access toggles that was previously limited to the Outside Screen Toggles. Now, users will be able to visibly determine which area will trigger a specific command such as Felt Tip Pen, Arrow Mode, Highlighter, Start/End Slideshow, Previous Slide, and Next Slide in PowerPoint slideshows.

These commands can be triggered by pressing directly on the Floating Toolbar or outside the screen area. You will be able to impress your audience with a smooth and effective presentation.

The Floating Toolbar can be minimized or expanded and also can be dragged to any position on your screen.

The Floating Toolbar can be easily customized to suit your needs, whether you are creating shortcuts for Google Earth, Windows Media Player or any other application. The buttons can be assigned to key strokes, mouse right click toggle or even for launching files and applications. Optionally, you can also add your personalized description and favorite icon to each button.

By default, there are 3 sets of functions configured for toolbar; Annotation, PowerPoint and Navigation. To switch between these sets, just click on the left or right button at the center of the Floating Toolbar. You can also click on the drop down menu to jump directly to a specific setting which will be useful if you have a long list of settings.

Annotation Feature
I have also included the new Annotation feature which is accessible through the Floating Toolbar. Without any additional software, you are now able to write directly on top of any window using the built-in colored Pens available in Red, Blue, Black and White. For a white blank screen, just select White Screen and you will have the whole screen for drawing and writing.

At any time, you can quickly save the whole screen to keep the screenshot for future reference or to be distributed to your audience. This can be easily done by selecting the Snapshot button. The whole screen will be compressed and saved into Smoothboard’s Snapshots folder with the appropriate time stamp.

If you would like to control the desktop while the screen annotations are still shown, you can click on the Cursor button. To exit and remove annotations, just click on Exit Annotation.

The software can be downloaded from http://www.smoothboard.net

Boon Jin

Wiimote Smoothboard / Smoothing for Wiimote Whiteboard 0.2
« on: June 02, 2008, 09:35:33 PM »
I have released the Smoothboard software that is targeted at actual use in lessons and presentations with the focus of ease-of-use.

Smoothboard now comes with built-in annotation feature, quick access toolbar and more for all your interactive whiteboard needs.

Smoothboard can be downloaded from http://www.smoothboard.net

Following from benpaddlejones request,
http://www.wiimoteproject.com/project-ideas/mouse-smoothing-a-new-challenge-for-the-programmers-t1003.0.html
I have modified Johnny Lee's Wiimote Whiteboard 0.2 to incorporate the mouse smoothing effect. This feature enhances the smoothness when drawing with an infrared pen.

I have followed the method used in the Java version of Wiimote Whiteboard by averaging out the past values of the click coordinates.

Comparison of the original without smoothing with the new smoothing feature

Smoothing can be enabled/disabled and also the number of past points to average out can be chosen.

Update:
I have made the app to save the user settings for the smoothness so that the settings can be loaded in the next run. The settings are saved in calibration.bat.

Update on 7th June 2008:
Cursor control did not function in Vista 64bit.
I have followed the solution by takai which can be found here:
http://www.wiimoteproject.com/wiimote-whiteboard/vista-issues-with-mouse-control-in-wiimotewhiteboard-02-onwards-solved-t1026.0.html

Download source codes and executable here:
http://www.boonjin.com/wp/2008/06/02/mouse-smoothing-for-wiimote-whiteboard

Note: I have developed a more functional version of the wiimote whiteboard. Multiple Wiimote support, outside screen toggles(right click, double click, keyboard presses, launch files), partial screen area calibration, calibration viewer, IR sensitivity settings etc.

Wiimote Smoothboard / Application to help right clicking 2
« on: June 01, 2008, 06:57:50 AM »
Hello! I am a new Wiimote Whiteboard user :) from Singapore studying electrical and electronics engineering.
Similar with the experiences of many other users here, the lack of a right-clicking feature is annoying.
Therefore, after seeing benpaddlejones's request to make an app, I decided to create one for myself.

The following is an excerpt from my website:
Right Clicker 0.1, allows you to switch the normal clicks into right clicks.
This is done by intercepting the left click event and replacing it with a simulated right click event.

After executing the application, drag or resize the window to suit your usage.
When you need to right click, just click within the window, toggle area or the status bar (except the settings button).
The subsequent click you make will be a right click. After that, the next clicks will be the normal left clicks.

Please feel free to post any comments here or at my website. If any one needs any other features, I will be most willing to help.

Here is a video demonstrating the usage of Right-Clicker
