I have a question.  I am trying to be "green".  I want to use a program (looking for a suggestion) to help my kids with specail needs.  I am really interested in the Wiimote projects.  I am trying to get it set up on my computer.  Here's what I'm not seeing though...

Can I save what I draw on the screen?  Using a "smartboard"  when you draw you can save what you did. I would like to do this with my students.  As they do tracing I want to save it. Save paper as we do drawing/tracing several time a week. 

saving what you draw would not be hard at all. you could set up a window with transparency set to .01 and capture that as a bmp when you save. you would have to handle mouse painting which isnt hard either but that gets outside of the traditional whiteboard app and into custom implementation.

or you could start a new app, put a picturebox on there and capture the mouse movements so when you click it puts a pixel or small square or whatever shape and then save that as an image. .net has many formats built in, the only hard one is an animated gif but its doable.  then once your "paint" app works, import the wiimote library and add the few additional things to handle wiimote interaction.  then you have a savable painted area. i can help but i wont write it for you, that takes away all your fun.

as far as left and right click, that issue has been "resolved" many ways. it just depends on which way you want to deal with.  there are many posts and youtube videos about this. pick one that works for you

as for patent/copyright have you heard of an IR remote control? that uses user interactivity to alter the working function of an electronic device for interactivity and control purposes...

If this was patented i think that it would be by someone other than MS. i mean i am sure that nintendo looked into it because they have all this stuff built in. its just not a personal computer they are controlling, it is their self made system.

this is not the first introduction to this, and i think there would be a restriction in the patent due to the fact that there is a patented device as part of the functionality.

I could be wrong though but logically, it doesn't work.

have you tried connecting it to a *powered* usb hub?

the connector type does not matter, it is just a different configuration of the 4 inputs of the usb. they dont make the type b kind much anymore because its just silly to have 2 different connectors to have to fight. but there still are places that use it instead of the type a slot.

with newer specs there is a difference in wiring diagrams but its just with the type a one wire is fitted to the ground and type b is not connected but this is generally in the micro and mini usb versions on cables that go from micro/mini to standard size

have you looked at the code to verify the connection method's are the same?

do you have the direct x sdk installed?

are you running vista?
if so, are you running in basic colored mode for vista, or have the app running in windowed mode rather than full screen?

check your connection methods like in this post

it depends on where you are talking about making a permanent change at. if you got the code from Johnny's page, then its doubtful that he will update with these little fixes since his page is more of a technology guide, or example rather than a version that should be used mainstream. he left it up to the community to see how he did things and make your own creations.

I suppose you could go to one of the opensource project pages and request a bug there but i have not kept track of where all those projects are

I found the solution for this problem.

I think powerpoint uses different way of getting the mouseevent from other applications.
Change the method of setting the mouse position, and it will work well.

Change the code in this way.

the code for multiple wiimotes has also been posted previously, search for "multiple wiimotes" i know i have seen it. I personally have not tried it though.

Also, there are a couple of versions that have multiple wiimotes functionality built in.i dont know where as all my code is based off the codeplex libs and johnny's releases.


as long as you have a bright enough / focused IR source, you shouldn't need multiple wiimotes. but that is purely speculation. i do not know anything about how you are implementing your multiscreens.

it is open source sort of. i am not sure if there is an SVN page for it but also any changes made to it you can just post up the code so people can see it.

if there is an SVN or sourceforge page for it, that would ultimately be better though i guess

on mine it wouldnt come out using that method. I got the white bulb one but im sure that doesnt make a difference. it just feels like it is glued in.

there are many helpful posts about getting the wiimote to connect. a search would be a good start. its hard to jump right in and know everything that people here on the boards have figured out.

a hardware in my area has these with white led's. i had the same idea but couldnt get the main part out to change the led.

they are assembled well but it seems a little too well for my comfort of ripping it apart. the top of mine does not unscrew and pressure would need to be applied directly to the led which could damage its inner workings.

also mine said to be waterproof so that lead me to believe a sealant or adhesive was used upon initial assembly.

you can try it but i had no luck. that company does actually make an IR version if you can find them.

plus AAAA batteries are harder to find and more expensive.

plus the on switch is on the very back which makes it harder if you are trying to do mouse clicks with it.

dont forget the bluetooth adapter you will need. other than that, i would say its more of an addicting hobby rather than a tinkering one, heh. there are lots of good people on the boards and also good info and many questions already answered so be sure you check all that stuff out as well.
