IR Pens / Re: Nunux IR pen

The pen reaction is smooth. I can't post a video, but a drawing made with the pen if you want :)

We should open a Gallery to show painting in a special section ! Dice, can we ?

I tried to achieve the same level of "compactness"... cheaper... but WITH adhesive tape ;-)

Hi Romlel,

Nice try! can you precise which type of battery do you use ?
Have you made a video ? How the pen react ?

I was also thinking will the distance from the screen make a big effect?

I always put the head of the pen in contact with the screen to draw easier.
The led is at 5 millimeters of head of the pen.

there is like a 30 degree angle in the front, do you think that will make a difference?

It's may be better, because the IR beam will be less open than in other case,
so it can be more accurate. In my video demo, I was running in 1280x800 res,
and the wiimote position was not at he best place (using only 2/3 of the input window)

so this is no longer a laser correct?  Just IR LED pen.

Yes, and without adhesive tape ;-)

The result is professional looking, but maybe a little expensive ...

... and require solding iron skill.

I may provide some modified pens, if people are interested ...

seems to be very clear, might be worth looking into more, I am currently working on a touch on / off, no buttons device

This is the start of my project

I've look at the result. But why don't you add a resistor to stay in 3v ?
(You will have a better autonomie, and avoid a complex mecanical bypass
involving electric tape that may make the battery change harder...)

IR Pens / Re: IR-Pen any good?

Im stuck with these if i cant get my money back so do you think it will be ok to change them to IR?.

Changing the laser diode by an IR diode may require skill in soldering iron.

But it's the best way to get professional looking pen, without adhesive tape ...

So it's what I've done.

Laser is not IR.

Laser (about 660 nm is visible, your eyes can see the red point)

IR (infrared) is 950 nm, you can't see it. It's like the remote
for control TV.

You may be confuse:
- by video, because some camera see IR and transpose it to red color,
like in Johnny demo.
- by the fact that laser (and other red led) emmit a small amount of
infrared light than the wiimote can see, but not enought to get
working application.

I've stared with red led instead of infrared and i get the same problem...

Hope the explication has helped ...

I think you sould replace the laser beamer by an IR diode.

Like this pictures:

To do my pen:
I've buy the article "77-2464 B01" from:

Then I remove the laser beam diode an remplace it by an IR led + a 33ohm resistor.

Say Hi! / Hi from PARIS, Nunux is here

Hi all,

I'm Nunux, from Paris.

The whiteboard work for me under Vista.

I've modified a laser pen into an ir pen:

I may post picts on the modif if you want...
