Wiimote Interactive Whiteboard / Re: Remote whiteboarding?
« on: June 18, 2008, 06:14:28 PM »
No reason it won't work. Once the whiteboard is correctly calibrated it will accurately transmit mouse moves just like a regular mouse.

The coolness factor and usefulness of this software is using it as a whiteboard - I.E. standing in front of a big space and using large gestures to communicate with a large group.

I don't know exactly what you are looking to do, but if you just want the "light pen" feature you may want a Wacom Tablet.

They are made for drawing digitally with a pen.

I think that the "Click off screen" would be a good option - actual use would be similar to clicking on the little pen in the taskbar but you could go to any edge of the screen, not just the bottom right edge and you would not have to be as accurate.

Just my 2 cents - but I do like the right clicker as it is too ;)

Greetings,

I have made a quick guide detailing my experience with the wii whiteboard.

http://sites.google.com/site/wiiwhiteboard

I am in Los Angeles but I assume that the parts numbers are going to be the same at other Radio Shacks. If anyone does follow this guide and finds other numbers for the same parts let me know and I can include that information.  Also, if anyone has a vastly different experience with these parts or this guide fails for them also let me know.

Thanks everyone for all the work you've put into this and the help I've received from this forum.

That problem feels like some software interaction.  You might try looking through the system logs (right click "my computer", choose manage, System Tools, Event Viewer_ to see if you can discern the process or reason for the OS hang.  You will hopefully see a process or PID each time you get a reboot. You might also try these drivers

http://www.broadcom.com/products/bluetooth_update.php

I have been using different BT dongles on different machines for years, and the only drivers that will always do the trick are those old school Widcomm.

I would also like to know if those of you experiencing that hang could list the most intrusive programs (anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware, anti-greyware), graphics cards and drivers you are using. In my experience those are the progs that cause the most trouble.  It is also relevant if you are not using any sort of "Anti" software.  Just hoping to see something across the board, so the coders in this forum could account for it in the next release.

Wiimote Interactive Whiteboard / Plasma Screen T.V. vs. Projector
« on: June 14, 2008, 05:08:44 PM »
Greetings - first post here.  Love you guys  ;)

FYI - I have created two Light pens from Radio Shack parts (Using the AA battery holder [Catalog #: 270-401], the I.R. Led they offer [Catalog #: 276-143], one with this button switch [Catalog #: 275-1547], and one with the rolling switch [Catalog #: 275-017]. I like the roller switch better, the button takes more pressure which can start to hurt the finger tip after a while.

Using the pens on the plasma is terrible. I actually have to turn them around backwards, then they work a charm.  I made a nasty looking pen from a battery, LED, and switch and taped the whole mess together in the smallest bundle possible with the LED facing backwards. This ugly little guy makes the best plasma light pen, but you aren't going to impress anyone with it.

I figured that I just needed to get a better LED, but I grabbed a nice projector from work and brought it home to test it out.  Imagine my surprise when the pens worked perfectly!  I mean, super accurately, like you would expect from a commercial setup (save the fact that the pens are red and blue Marks-a-Lot ;) ).

I would like to know if this is expected behavior AND if a LED upgrade would fix the plasma scene (the upgrade is going to be like 10 bucks because I have to have the little guys shipped and shipping costs 21 times the cost of the LED...).
