Pentabulous / Re: Penteractive.us to offer FREE Wiimote Whiteboard software

How are you powering your wiimote? Weird question I know. Also, what version of windows do you have?

I rigged a plug to the battery contacts and plug it into the wall. The plug should be to right power output, I made sure of that when I rigged it.  It's on an XP machine.

This is great software.  I am hoping to help some other teachers in the school use this whiteboard system, but I was always worried about the complications of connecting and calibrating.  I can definitely see users willing to take on the project with your simple software.

Myself, I like having offscreen toggles, and a bit more functionality, so I'm not sure I will use this day-to-day, but it will be what I use to get other teachers going.

One thing: for some reason after it connects my wiimote, it crashes.  Then I run it again and say that I am already connected and it works fine.  No biggie, since it's still easier than connecting any other way.  It may also be unique to my situation.  The image of the computer I have at school it so messed up that I have always found connecting to be finicky.

General Discussion / how long will the wiimote last??
« on: June 11, 2009, 10:41:54 AM »
Any ideas on how long these things are made to last??  Not sure if 5-8 hours a day, 5 days a week is what they were built for.

Anyone think they will start burning out after a year or two??

Working like a charm! I used an eraser to hold the red button down, but I have found that syncing within the 10 sec (or whatever it is) time frame is unreliable.  Instead, I put another eraser in the stand I use and put the wiimote in upside down to hold the A & B buttons down permanently.  Great fix!! I'll try to take a photo of it at some point.

General Hardware Talk / Re: sync button..

I use a microsoft dongle (came with my bluetooth mouse) and I use Wiiconnect.  I have the sync button depressed with an eraser, I plug it in and try to connect.  But it has always seemed to go through two phases.  I have always had to push the a&b buttons twice during the connection process.  I am guessing that the wiimote is detecting that the connection has been made and it comes out of search mode.  Is this normal, just microsoft, or is something weird happening for me??

Thanks

*EDIT*-- Nevermind, I downloaded the latest version of wiimote connect and it seems to be working very well!

I'm curious if you have tried this and if it has worked?? I found a product with the same numbers and am going to give it a go.  It's only $4, so I'll probably just give it a try.

would  3v  700mA work without potentially hurting anything?

Depending on your projector, there will be a setting to adjust that sort of thing, just like a regular computer monitor has.  I think most people project from the front though, so I don't know how much you can adjust it.  Your range on angles probably isn't too high.

Program works great on my SLOW work PC running XP (microsoft dongle for BT).  The only thing is that it runs the program (Smoothboard) too fast.  The connection has not been completed yet and it runs the program.  So the icons come up in the system tray, but the program doesn't finish starting up.  When I hover over the icons they disappear (cause the program isn't really running).  Then it connects, I run the program manually and everything is fine.

I have been using the wiiboard for a bit, and I just found this program.  It makes connecting so easy, I real feel that it makes the whole project more manageable, and I'm a computer person, so if non-computer people were to use this, I would expect even more so.

In high school I can't come in in the morning, hook it up and use it all day.  I am constantly hooking it up and unhooking it, so this will make my life so much better.

Thanks so much!

Yeah... it was just low batteries.  I don't have a Wii, and I didn't know that the one flashing light meant it was low.  So no worries.

For future reference, will it stay connected as long as the batteries don't run out?

IR Pens / Re: IR Pens from irpensonline.com

I bought one of his pens and have been using it for about a week and it's great.  Very reliable, sturdy, great overall construction.  He notified me when it went in the mail, and I got it within a week (and I live in Canada). I emailed him and he responded to me very quickly with a paypal invoice for the pen.

Thanks again!

Anyone else lose their connection because (I'm assuming) the wiimote shuts off?  It is a pain to have to reconnect it again and again.

I have seen at least one video on youtube showing how to connect a wiimote directly to a computer with a cable.  The person uses a serial mouse, takes it apart, and connect the wiimote into it, then plugs the serial mouse into the computer.  So... it is possible.  This particular connect (above) turns the wiimote into a mouse directly I think, more configuring or a different setup would be needed to use the white board.  But it is possible.  However, weigh the work required in that to buying a bluetooth dongle... doesn't seem to be a comparison.

IR Pens / Re: New IR Pen Concept

Yeah that's what I was thinking too, but the size is an issue.  That's why I figured you could do it with the right production facility.

Would be great to get testimony of how this changes the functionality of the pen. Does it drastically improve performance?
