Bluetooth & Connectivity Help Center / Re: Bluetooth Adapter
« on: January 11, 2008, 11:17:40 PM »
i dont think the wiki is 100% accurate. or at least not all possibilities with each device has been tried. I got my linksys device on that list to work without the driver install pack from linksys and without bluesoliel or whatever it is. i posted about it in the whiteboard section. changed the wiimote lib connect call in johnnys ap so not all hope is lost if your adapter is not on the list or it has some special scenario on the list.

Wiimote Finger Tracking / Re: Help
« on: January 11, 2008, 09:54:07 AM »
i had the same problem. It seems that the version of the WiiLib that Johnny uses is a little different from the one on codeplex. i modified my connect() in wiimote.cs and i talked about out it in

http://www.wiimoteproject.com/wiimote-whiteboard/wiimote-whiteboard-faq-and-adv-discussion-t2.0.html

besides, its 20 times as fun when you start writing your own stuff into the already provided examples!

how about this, what if you preset an area of your whiteboard to be the click area. so if you set it at the very top in the middle, any activity in that zone would send a mouseclick, otherwise you would send a mousemove. you could have 2 distinct zones

This would work because as long as you have your wiimote app calibrated, you could handle it in the mouse position processing. the mouse wouldn't move since it is set to read one of those zones. you could even draw something on the client desktop area so you can see where the zone is. or pop up a window at the same point after calibration. sure you would have to move away for clicks but i think this would be a good option with current hardware and software for the most part.

have ran the multipoint keyboard, desktopvr and whiteboard app successfully after a wiilib connect alteration

IR Pens / My pen Schematic
« on: January 10, 2008, 08:58:33 AM »
Pretty much follows the image from the initial blog site.
I have now built 2,
one using a Sharpie Accent pen body

and one using a Bic Ultra Round Stick Grip

from radio shack i got the rest

Infrared LED
part: 276-143

Momentary Switch
part: 275-1571

1 AA battery holder
part: 270-401

here is a picture of the two i got so far. they work but are less than pretty.
the first one was the bic pen. i got the momentary switch before realizing that the switch was longer than the pen. thats one reason i switched to the sharpie.
the other thing on my pens is if you look at where the LED is, there is the clear cap on the bic and the end cap from the bic is on the sharpie. when i used the tracking box from the wiilib example, it makes it show up so much better.

Also i tried to find a different battery container that is just a cap for a single AA but i could not so i will have to make one later. When i get one, the battery on the sharpie will be inside with the original cap on the end.

also on the bic i initially superglued the button in place then the pen stopped working properly come to find out the glue i used is conductive (future glue) so be weary of that... heh

they dont look great but they work. so thats all i need. heh.

Comments and Feedback / Re: Pen design conversations
« on: January 09, 2008, 07:17:43 PM »
i think since a pen is useful for more than just specific apps, it might be better to have a hardware section and then each project section, but then again you might not necessarily have a pen on the desktop vr for instance.

i see the hardware under each of the projects so maybe that will suffice but just thought a general hardware might be helpful. for instance if someone started on one project and needed help building a pen, they might miss good conversations under another project on pen design strategies.

just my thoughts, keep up the good work and thanks for hosting.

Comments and Feedback / Pen design conversations

Perhaps there could be a sub-section for Pen schematics and discussions on how people built them and where they got their stuff....

might be informative to the masses.

General Discussion / Re: Should I bring over all the old comments?

i do not see how you would arrange them in an orderly fashion short of one post. then it would be just as hard to read responses to individual items in that massive post, as it would be to comment on them from Johnny's blog. it seems 50/50 unless everyone from there comes here and gets a login and posts questions.

One thing I have grown tired of, it the dependence on a third party app to connect to the wiimote. I have got around this by changing the ReadCalibration(); line to look like this

Code: [Select]
try
{
    ReadCalibration();
}
catch
{
    // if we fail above, try the alternate HID writes
    mAltWriteMethod = true;
    ReadCalibration();
}

also commented out the following

Code: [Select]
remoteID = (int)index;
connectedRemoteIDs.Add(remoteID);

this allowed me to connect with the default windows driver for my Linksys USBBT100 class 1 device in both windows xp and vista.

hope it works for the rest of you guys as well.

also, this works on the multigrid and desktopvr app.
