Wiimote Interactive Whiteboard / Re: Problem with distance/proximity
« on: July 08, 2009, 07:45:33 PM »
I usually keep wiimote even with or about a foot or so in front of the projector.

So if your projector is 10 feet from the screen I mount the wiimote at 9 feet.

However, one time I set up another teacher who had his projector about 15 feet from the screen (huge projection)and I set the wiimote at around 10 feet and it worked.

Have you tried Smoothboard or the Java version?  I haven't tried the origianal version myself but I've read that it is buggy.  Smoothboard's optimal tracking is above 40% but Usually I use it around 38%

Accessories / Wiimote Mount
« on: July 08, 2009, 01:51:03 PM »
Here's a wiimote clamp mount that I've come up with that I will sell for $20.00

  • Extremely flexible
  • Can stand on its own
  • Wiimote does not need to be altered
  • Needs no other accessories

Project Ideas / Re: How does the Wii Remote Work
« on: June 18, 2009, 11:13:39 PM »
You can run all sorts of programs and websites.  Smoothboard and the Java version are what make it possible to do it.

This site provides the same information as the shootingsoftware site, but in a different format that made more sense to me.

Good luck

I have made the latest Smoothboard 1.1 to be compatible with these non-genuine Wiimotes.

How well do the non-genuine wiimotes work with your software?

Linktivity in the download section works great.  With linktivity you can write over .ppt's.

ClassroomPresenter from Washington Edu (i think) is nice, and Promethian offers offers a personal free edition of their IWB software (but its huge).  I like to use Prezi.

Many websites work great.

some other light source (sun, Halogen, incadesecnt) may be the cause.  See if you have anything like that interfering.

Wiimote Interactive Whiteboard / Re: Found a Screen Overlay Program!
« on: June 09, 2009, 02:17:36 PM »
Another thing you could do in power point is put a shape over the answer that dissolves when you click on it.

So, the student would go up to the board and write the answer, and then click on the shape to see if they have it right.

I don't think you can have an active object like that in powerpoints presentation mode.  You may have better luck doing something like that in ClassroomPresenter or Promethian's free personal edition of activInspire. Both softwares allow you import .ppt files btw.

I am look for a handwriting recognition that works with the powerpoint pen feature. What I envision doing is putting a PDF of a class worksheet on the slideshow and then have the kids come up to fill in the answer. Then with the HR part I want it to change the handwriting into text
A simple screen overlay is not good enough because afterwards I want to be able to go home and animate the answer using powerpoint, so that I have the answer already filled in for next year and I would be able to reveal it whereever I want in the slideshow.

Glad it worked for you.  I  was in Davison Friday at one of the elementary schools showing them the whiteboard.

Thanks Ben,

Hopefully its the "not logged in as an administrator" solution.  This is the first time I've not been able to connect so it is good practice for me.

Have a great day
