Hi,

Whilst the Wii Motionplus will not be available until mid-June it does not prevent us from thinking about and proposing uses for it.

It may be possible to make the Wii Motionplus adapter completely wireless and physically unconnected to the Wii Remote by using the wireless connectivity from the Nyko Cord Free for the Wii Nunchuk.

See here for Nyko Cord Free details: - http://www.nyko.com/nyko/products/?i=136

The main idea is that the Wii MotionPlus connects into the plug recepticle for the Wii Nunchuk in the Nyko Cord Free. The Nyko wireless connector is attached to the Wii Remote instead of the Wii MotionPlus.

Some minor dissassembly of the Nyko Cord Free is required using a screwdriver. The handle and rubbers can be easily removed and discarded. The base compartment with its circuit board assembly can be easily opened.

The cable from the circuit board can be extended from inside the enclosure for better reach to the Wii MotionPlus.

It seems there are no physical impediments to making this concept work.

These are some of the potential advantages of this mod:

1. It enables a wireless 3 axes rotation sensor to be physically separate from the Wii Remote. This may make it useful as a head tracker where the weight and size of the Wii Remote makes it impractical to use.

2. For locational flexibility and utility, a Wii Nunchuk extension cord can be used to place the Wii MotionPlus separately from the Nyko Cord Free wireless module. This may be useful if you didn't want the wireless module for the head tracker near your head.

3. There is further scope to modify the packaging of the Wii MotionPlus and Nyko Cord Free base to reduced its size, shape or lightness for adaptation to other applications.

4. Four or maybe more Wii MotionPlus modules can be used at the same time, each with their own Wii Remote base station, as the Nyko Cord Free devices can apparently distinguish between their wireless transmissions so there is no communication interference.

5. A wireless 6 axes sensor may be possible, with the Wii MotionPlus strapped to a Wii Nunchuk. The Nunchuk could use the back port of the Wii MotionPlus whilst the front port is used by Nyko Cord Free wireless module.

I hope this idea works, as it could lead to some interesting developments and applications in the modding community.

Thanks.
