Title: Hi from Arizona
Post by: Aricat on July 09, 2011, 06:59:25 PM
Hi everyone,

I've decided to implement a Wiimote system for my classroom, and am hoping to find some good info and advice on this forum.

Although Wiimote whiteboards are an inexpensive alternative, I don't have a digital projector, so that was the first hurdle I had to clear.  Instead of purchasing a projector, though, I decided to go the other route.  I found a great price on a 55" flat screen TV, which I have now purchased with my own money.  I will also be getting a screen protector, either commercial or homemade, and I'm hoping this will be a good setup.

As I understand things, I will need to get one or two Wii remotes (remote plus ok?), a dongle for my older classroom computer's USB port, Wiimote software, and an IR pen.  In my case, I may also need to get a video card for my computer in order to hook up an HDMI port to the new TV.

Then apparently I will need accessories for the accessories, such as a battery charger for the remote(s).  Have I got this right?

It seems there is a growing list of sources where one can get hold of the various components, and I guess the main things I'm wondering about are the best software, a good IR pen, and if there's anything else in particular I should be paying attention to here in the early going.

Any and all suggestions welcome.  I admit I haven't read through the discussion forums yet - it's a bit hard to know where to start.

Cheers.

Hi,

In most cases, a single Wiimote should be sufficient.

You may purchase the IR pen, Wiimote holder and Bluetooth adaptor from one of the sellers here. Depending on your setup, you may just use your own rechargeable AA batteries to power the Wiimote.

To get started, you may look at the Smoothboard User Guide

If you encounter any issues, you may refer to the troubleshooting section
