Hello,

I am a new member to the WiiMote project. I am a teacher in West Hartford, CT who has purchased Smoothboard 2.5 and am in the process of setting it all up for use in my instrumental music classroom. My students were totally blown away as I used my dry-erase white board as an interactive whiteboard. They had a great laugh when a student stepped in front of the projector and I opened a file off of his back. I have discovered how to use the pen, highlighter, backgrounds, shapes, eraser, etc. What I can not figure out is how to activate outside screen toggles to include all the things I previously listed. All I can do is make it scroll and right click. Is it possible to put the pen, highlighter, eraser, etc in the outside screen toggles? If so is it possible to add a link to a program? I would love to add a screen toggle that pulls up the 'On Screen Keyboard' and perhaps some other apps.

Thanks for a great program. I can't wait to get everything mounted in my classroom!

Musically Yours,
Alan Smith

Hi Alan Smith,

Great to hear that you are using Smoothboard 2.5

The Outside Screen Toggles for Smoothboard 2.0 and above is fixed to Left side for Up and Down, while the bottom is the Right Click trigger. The Floating Toolbar has replaced the previous Outside Screen Toggles where there are 12 areas.

You can set a Floating Toolbar button to launch a specific application such as the On Screen Keyboard.
To do this, you can go to Smoothboard Settings->Whiteboard->Floating Toolbar->Launch File/Application. There you can browse for the file you would like to launch. For the On Screen Keyboard, you can just type there OSK.exe

I am new to Smoothboard and have no experience with previous versions. However, I know I would like to see the outside screen toggles be customizable. Scrolling is generally unimportant as most apps have scroll bars on the right side of the screen. To have to pull up the floating toolbar everytime you need something, then minimize it so you have full use of the screen is cumbersome. Perhaps the option to customize your toolbar AND outside screen toggles can be added in the next Smoothboard update.

Once, I have my setup fully operational, I plan on presenting to my sons school principal and PTO, for installation of Smoothboard in every classroom. I have designed a PowerPoint of 'Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader" that requires contestants to use the many functions of the Smoothboard application. I have included writing, drawing, moving objects, highlighting, etc within the context of all the subjects taught at the school.

I will let you know how it goes. Please consider the update to Smoothboard to customize the outside screen toggles.

Hi Alan Smith,

From our experience with the previous versions of Smoothboard, only a very small number of users use the Outside Screen Toggles. This is mainly because of the learning curve and the difficulty in remembering which area is for which trigger.

With Smoothboard 2.5, the Floating Toolbar is by default a thin vertical bar on the side. You can also resize and reposition it anywhere on your screen. The position and size will be automatically saved.
