I've been contemplating a project and I want some opinions on whether the Wii equipment can be used to pull it off.
My idea is to team head tracking with the Wiimote with display glasses from myvu.com to create an immersive 3D environment, preferably for first-person shooters. The idea is to be able to move the camera by head position independent of the direction the avatar is actually facing. A second Wiimote would be used to move the targeting reticle around in your field of view, but would require 360 degree rotation, which might require the construction of a kind of "IR cage" with IR LEDs mounted all around the room.
To control movement, I'm thinking a Wii Balance Board (also a bluetooth device), which measures the users center of gravity. Lean forward and the avatar would move forward, left and right would control strafing movement, and even crouching could be accomplished since it alters your center of gravity, which the balance board could detect. Mount the board to a turntable to track 360 degree rotation and you have full 3D immersion.
So, does this seem feasible with the given equipment?
